The problem is that when he is on the ball, he always needs to provide service to men situated at considerable distances from him and with those men not making any moves to free themselves. Busi does not have a perfectly clean service over long distances, especially not when the margin of error is so slim. When Busi and Gomes make the same mistakes when playing at DM, it's clear that the position needs rethinking. And the solution is to switch from a rigid positional play, to a more fluid type of football, where players move more with their teammates adjusting their positions, in order to fill any gaps that are created, and thus mantain a correct shape in positional. Basically, bring back juego de posicion and stop with this rigid football.

Busi was used with always having 1-2-3 options for a clear pass, one that was productive, and was within the acceptable margins of error. Now, he is stripped from that, he needs to put extra risk in his passes, because the spaces are bigger, the markings tighter, and our movement a lot weaker. Basically, every thing that was tactically thought out to easen up the burden of passing for our players has been eliminated, so the conditions in which we have to pass the ball are more stresfull. Which leads to more mistakes.

So when Busi has the ball, the positions of our midfielders needs to be redrawn. Because, as things are now, our midfield positions remain mostly the same with or without the ball. If anything, when someone is on the ball, the strategy is not to provide viable passing options but to push up, leaving the player on the ball to figure things out on his own. And not only that, but we base our tactics considering that said player WILL MANAGE TO DO THAT. Which is why we brought few playmakers, and mostly false-midfielders who are more dangerous near the box, then inside the center circle, including Rafinha, Denis, even Gomes to some extent or Arda.

Those average positions are misleading. They don't represent our formation when we build attacks and runs and defending positions are skewing it.

Those are not average positions. It's the average positions of players when they touched the ball. It's way less misleading than the pure average. 343 or not, our midfield was still pretty poor today. Bob was bad, iniesta too, and busi as well.

For me he is the biggest victim of our failing tactics. Doesn't even look one tenth of the player he can be. Pressing, then gets caught in his back because there's a wide open space between him and the defence. Unable to make the simplest of passes. Looks like a broken player.

If he doesn't fit our current way of playing he shouldn't play. Simple. Mascherano at DM in this system would be better. Busquets is awful and lmao at people making excuses for him. He's a waste of space. We'd be better of with ten players. His physical attributes are so poor it's a disgrace. When Xavi and Iniesta were peak he looked good because they biased and he just had to know how to position himself. Now he looks all at sea. Slow as a turtle, weak as a dandelion.

Last season was arguably his best season of his career, so you obviously have some very strong opinions about him, but they're baseless if you think he only looked good because of Peak Xavi + Iniesta.

Put Mascherano there, but it's not like he'll magically deliver World Class performances when he has to cover that big gaping hole in the midfield all by himself when Iniesta's legs aren't what they used to be, Gomes' lack of agility and Rakitic and the others' underwhelming performances.

You starting to see something here? It's what I call a pattern.

No one is making excuses for anyone, but there's a reason why Neymar + Alba have struggled on the left and gotten double-teamed, Suarez barely got touches on the ball and looked far worse than he has ever been, Messi been isolated and the right side been left alone with Roberto incapable of doing something on it along with the midfield issues.

There is a gaping hole but Busquets is so weak, slow and reactive that the hole is magnified twofold. This is the business end of the season. We can't let emotion get the best of us. If Busquets has to be dropped so be it.
