Sergio Busquets

This guy has no shame at all, he is done for 4 years now yet he is still playing, and wtf why the fuck they keep playing him.

Part of it is that his internal replacements have failed. Sergi Samper and to a lesser extent, Oriol Busquets, were all considered his successors, but they both flopped.

Of course, Barca could have tried to get a replacement through the transfer market, but Barto things.

They tried, Frenkie was supposed to be his replacement but unfortunately like always Barto and his friends don't really do their homework when it comes to buying players.

Frenkie was a quality addition to the midfield regardless. Needed to replace oldies like Rakitic and Vidal.
Of course, there are some critics who think FDJ isn't worth the price and wages paid, but he is a world class midfielder.

Far from it.

I mean, he's a scrawny non-athletic deep-lying midfielder. These types of players require certain setups to excel.

"System player" doesn't have to be pejorative. Pirlo is one of the greatest players of all time. Still, you couldn't just plug him in any team/formation and expect him to deliver. We saw that in Allegri's first season with Milan.

I thought he was a smart guy, but it's baffling that he's not aware he should retire as soon as possible.

I loved watching him play, but his time is up...

He's four years past his expiry date but still gets picked for country and club. Insane. He should be plying his trade in the Gulf countries or China.

Contract until 2023 when he will be turning 35.

Automatic starter in big matches still when he is a complete liability. I cannot wait until he is gone. Useful years ago yes. Not even close anymore.

It is a bit of a reductive argument. Yeah, all of Xavi-Iniesta-Busi-Alves played much worse without each other. They made each other better in that specific system, carrying out particular responsibilities. That's how a good team is supposed to work.

Different to Xavi and Iniesta.

More of a tall futsal player that was unreal at finding way out of pressure and wee passes to break lines when pressed.

Was never close to level of Xavi at getting ball and ball to dictate and slice teams open but was not his role.

Clearly was a system player that has never been the same influence since Xavi/Iniesta declined but all players are system players really anyway and can only judge them on team they excelled in.

One of best DMs ever for what he did at Barca but wouldnt have translated to vast majority of other clubs to be known as that.

Now... he is just a an awful player for level he is at and what Barca/Spain need against top sides and ones that can pressure.

A system fraud who was carried by Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, and Alves.
He was part of the system. There is a reason Pep kept him instead Yaya Toure, he was made for that system. . Unfortunately, all good things come to an end, Busi should retire, really.

He also improved the 'system' for Xavi and Iniesta.

They never dominated club football in way they did with Busquets and Peps approach.

Gotta go with Joan here

KingLeo10 you're trippin' dwag. busquet's passing ability and awareness was on par with xavi and iniesta, when in his prime

I was half facetious with my statement...but surely you have to agree on this part, that he has been god awful against any remotely good team for years now. More years of that and the sentiment on his legacy will start to change among the majority of fanbases IMO.
