Sergio Busquets

If not a terrible game, it's still painful to see how much he slows the game... Every opportunity for a counter that goes through immediately comes to an end, he turns looks for Messi, notices he's not here anymore and then passes backwards...

That's simply is not true, and far from reality !!

The only peace of shit in the middle today was FDJ .. not only slow but had no clue what to do and was cocked by low wages Osasuna players.

It's completely crazy that he's still playing. He doesn't even seem like a real football player. He often seems suprised to receive the ball when the game is flowing.

It's like he reckons his job is mostly just to "be there" and point his arm to whomever he wants the center backs to pass to.

He's the most important part of the puzzle of playing it out from the back and he performs zero of the basic duties of that role.

We would benefit immensely from having a DM who can actually make himself available, maneuvre with the ball or drive it forward.

He's just too slow. In a team that has problems with speed, he and Pique are the slowest players by far in a very noticeable way.

Here's the thing.

He is not bad, a football genius in the head infact. And he can probably go until 35 because of it because his stamina is very good, just his speed and strength are not, and never were.

Slightly different eras, but it is like when Milan let go of Pirlo because he was too old for the game, and then he goes on and gaves 4 more seasons with Juventus.

The problem (and it was the same with Messi) is that you can not have a core of Busquets, Pique, Lenglet and all these unathletic sacks and expect to be competitive. If we want Busquets to be the DMC maestro for a few more years then the whole team surrounding him must be fit, fast and at their physical peak.

If we wanted Messi was our one man attacking gang, then the same. And the same with Luis Suarez if we wanted to have an old striker who just scores goals. But we can't have them all together, so right now if we choose to maintain Busquets (which is the right decision imo) then all of the veterans or slow and unathletic players around him must go (so Sergi Roberto, Pique, Umtiti, Lenglet and maybe Eric in the defensive line).

Surrounding him with younger and more athletic players is a good way to compensate for his lack of speed but there will still be moments where he won't be able to keep up with the pace of the game and thus get exposed. Sometimes he gets caught high up and then is not able to recover ground.

DM is very critical position, it's hard to compensate for a 'handicap' player in that spot. Busquets is pushing 34. I think we should be focusing more on moving him on rather than trying to compensate for his physical shortcomings.

We can pair him up with Gavi who can do all the running.., a bit like Jorginho and Kante ???

Barçapocalypse NOW!
He was better than in recent matches, but it was Elche after all, he always looks decent against bottom of the table teams...
