A few years ago: undoubtedly; but now, I'm not so sure.

The point being that the Catalans make up a fraction of the population of Spain yet whose style & influence in football has been much greater and at it's height, an unparalleled power in football

The success of La Roja, apart from the Catalans, is down to the continuity in coaching and systems throughout the country...If there had been a Catalan NT, perhaps others would've chosen to play for them - Thiago, Adama, Messi and any number of youth players who have spent most of their lives in the cantera

What an absurd thing to say in this discussion. Deulofeu only faced other U21 or U23 or whatever-age players, and never played against top-level teams and players, defenders. How does that mean nothing?

Those players he played and excelled against will be the ones he faces with the senior side so nothing absurd about it either...Xavi, Cesc, Iniesta et al enjoyed success & domination from youth to senior side - how irrelevant is that?

Spain would not have won the 2010 wc or both euros without the catalan players. Very funny posts from madridistas here
And Barça's defense leader last season was Pique, not Masche. Pique was the outstanding cb.

no one can take away their contribution.. without them Spain would have won jackshit... same way the Basques were a lot during the 80's early 90's
however we are talking about 5 years ago or 3 years ago.. we are talking now.. now they can survive without them

I think that Spain needs Busi. Without him, they won't perform half as good. Rest of the catalans could be replaced, I reckon, but Busi is the man.

Im sure Spain wouldnt have won 3 consecutive titles without the catalans, but would they have won everything without the others? The team was dominated by catalans, true, but others made an effort as well. Take away David Villa, Torres, Alonso, Ramos and Casillas, would they have won that much? I think they both needed/need each other, perhaps the non-catalans needed the catalans more 2008-2012, now its perhaps a bit opposite?

Not 5, 3 years ago, the last euro. And I'm not sure Spain would win anything without them as of now. Busquets and Pique are 2 very important players, so is Alba. Spain'd probably be back to the spain of old.

Yeah, and without the lethal strikers David Villa and Torres(once upon a time), what then? One can also mention Casillas with his matchwinning saves, particulary in 2010. Ofc, barca-players contributed massively to the success, but one shouldnt write off the ones that wasnt.

I didn't write anyone off. But without the Barça/catalan core, Spain wouldn't have won anything.

Sure, maybe 1 title, if they were lucky, no more than that. But without certain other players they might have lost a title or two also, everyone contributed very well.
