Spanish FA, FC Barcelona sanctioned for international transfers of minors

Pedro López Jiménez, Third Vice President of Real Madrid was part of the FIFA taskforce that investigated the transfers of the Barca youngsters.
Guillem Ballague, Sky Sports La Liga Expert said that almost every club in the world does this (not obeying all rules when signing youngsters) and he's surprised such an intricate investigation was launched.

Yet the focus is only on Barca, of course.

The passage of the FIFA Barca for violating the regulations on hiring underage players was studied and analyzed by an estate (Status Committee of FIFA Players) in which one member is Pedro López Jiménez, Third Vice President of Real Madrid.

The Disciplinary Committee of FIFA who has been sanctioned to FC Barcelona but the case went through the study of the body in which Lopez is a member since last November.

Pedro Lopez is one of the trusted men of Florentino Perez and his arrival at the Commission is part of Real Madrid's strategy to regain relationships with top agencies in world football.

If you look the youngsters in question then clearly the rule they could have breach was the one concerning the parents. They have to move for "non-footballing" reasons. So what if the parents move due to their kids' career? No club treats and develops young players better than Barcelona and I don't understand why bringing their parents along should be illegal. That should only help these players so the rule is dumb to begin with.

Blatter stated that the rules are in place to protect youngsters from unscrupulous clubs and agents and must be strong on the matter. Then why are they not focusing on these so-called unscrupulous clubs, but instead are only banning a club that runs arguably the best development academy in the sport?

Too bad fifa isn't spending all this time, effor and money looking into issues currently going on in Brazil and Qatar. Makes you wonder where this sport is headed.

Been skimming over the news of this throughout the day but I don't have a very good idea on all the "sources". Anyone willing to fill me in on how it'll most likely play out?

Thou the rules were broken if Real Madrid is involved isnt that reason enough to have it null and void?

This whole thing is a joke. Sure, I agree that if we broke the rules that we should face some sort of punishment, but then so should any other club that is guilty of this (and there have got to be a lot of them). Otherwise it just looks like a witch hunt against Barca, and this above is even more damning if true. This morning I was angry with the club, now I'm also angry with FIFA.

Some rants from migeru... worth reading. He knows a lot and is spot on usually:

@migerucb 3 h
There are two options here: a) The Barça board didn't expect the FIFA ban b) They expected it. In both cases it shows their incompetence

If the Barça board knew about the potential FIFA ban, as you would expect, they should have signed everyone in the last two transfer periods

I never got Barça's optimism regarding the ban. It's delusional. It's ignoring the problems. It's blaming everyone for your own incompetence

It's exactly what they're doing now. "We are calm, we are going to explain it to FIFA" Just like they were "calm" about the Neymar tax case

You can disagree about the FIFA regulation regarding the protection of minors, and I certainly do, but Barça knew the rules

Barça argue that they don't exploit or abuse their players, which is the spirit of the law. A weak argument IMO when you consider it's FIFA

It's important to make a distinction between the signings of Théo Chendri + Bobby Adekanye and the signings of the Korean kids/others though

Théo Chendri or Bobby Adekanye were poached from another club. Lee Seung-Woo moved from one academy (via the Korean FA!) to another (Masia)

Banning Lee Seung-Woo isn't that different from not letting him go to Harvard because he isn't American. Is that how FIFA protect minors?

Note that the FIFA law re minors has been in place since October 2010. At least the current one. Dunno why FIFA mention the 2009-2013 period

That's said, it's because of Maxi Rolón. A player Barça signed in 2009 and that was banned in 2011 IIRC

Bartomeu destroyed a treble-winning basketball team and Laporta sacked him. Rosell and co made him president. That's the sad reality

Zubi wasn't good enough for Athletic, he had to scout about 100 players, and Rosell and co made him sporting director. That's the standard

The Barça board hasn't only mismanaged the team, overlooking their decline, they have damaged the club's reputation

When is a Barça player going to say: People expect a lot from us and we expect the same from the club. I wouldn't accept this mediocrity

Now the board is asking the members to let them spend €600m on the new Camp Nou. They never cared about the team, only about their legacy

Everyone knows my opinion on the new Camp Nou. Barça need it and €600m may not be enough. I can't trust the Barça board though

I can't trust this board. They have lied about everything. Qatar, Abidal, the finances... They even closed the club to new members

I bet they have already assigned the Camp Nou project. I bet they have already sold the naming rights. That's the last BIG LIE

Now the board is asking the members to let them spend €600m on the new Camp Nou. They never cared about the team, only about their legacy

Piqué out 4 weeks. Zubi will say that they can't predict injuries. They are wasting Iniesta's and Messi's prime with their poor management
Thanks Flavia! Awesome post.

:flagvl8: Migeru for President! :flagvl8:

 How can a club as large and renowned as FC Barcelona appoint a Board of Self-Serving, Deceitful, Treacherous, Abhorrent, Imbeciles? :icon_confused: Just wondering...

Yeah, it's frustrating. The official statement from FC Barcelona didn't really make it clear what's at risk or how the situation stands right now. I guess that they asked for "interim measures to preserve the clubs rights, amongst which are those to sign players in transfer windows" kind of makes it clear that as it stands right now, they most likely can't sign Ter Stegen and Halilovic (or anyone else) this summer, meaning the ban must be in effect from right now and going forward, and not delayed until after everyone has had their say like we hoped (why else would they need to ask for "interim measures" spesifically?).

I guess this means that we (and the players) will have to live in uncertainty with regards to how ruined next season will be until we get Fifas and the courts answer to Barcas claims. These rules from Fifa are completely moronic, and what they serve to "protect" just isn't relevant in this case, as has been explained in Barcas statement. So I hope that there are rational people that have the final word in this, and that it gets resolved. But if RM are in any way involved in this, they might just have gotten what they want from this anyway if the players and coaching staff lose their focus and subsequently their good form and end up stumbling out of the liga, cup and CL as a result.

This is just complete bull$hit!! Cruijff, Pep and Laporta built an empire of FC Barcelona and I wouldn't be surprised if RM paid Rossell to come in and destroy it. A president and his board should first and foremost LOVE THE CLUB and football but also respect the business side of things... OUR BOARD HAS NONE OF THAT. We're just some damn company to them to generate money. How the hell have we gone this long without strengthening the obvious areas of our team? When the supporters know what's best for the club more than the people inside the club then you have to GET THE F*CK OUT!

I didn't say much on the matter when it became public but the Neymar transfer is another piece of complete bullshit. How the hell is it a good idea to pay €130.2 million for an untried, untested player? On top of that we paid an additional 13 million to keep the Spanish government off our backs. Neymar is essentially replacing David Villa but with that amount we could have bought a quality veteran CB and either Luis Suarez or Aguero with no problem. I mean 40 million to fu.cking Neymar's dad, get the hell outta here! All Rosell had to do was manage our clubs money well and he did a hell of a job spending it for Nike.

We may win the appeal, we may not, either way FC Barcelona is being run into the ground with these Rosell goons. They need to leave and take Zubi with them... his incompetence is destroying any respect he earned as a player :banghead:

(before you Neylovers jump the gun on me I am not bashing Neymar himself. He's done well after moving to a new country, with a new language, culture and a new team with a unique philosophy. The breakdown of the deal pisses me off as we could have got 2-3 quality Uefa players instead of 1)
