If they weren't greedy to try to have a Clasico final they would have had more success in seeing one more Barca - Madrid. In before next year they settle for a semi to not leave it to chance. Especially if it goes back to Arabia with fans.

2nd place last season.

1st and 2nd place in La Liga + Finalists of the Cup. Madrid, Barca, Sociedad, Bilbao.

If Finalists of the cup are also 1-2 in La Liga then 3rd place goes too. Or 4th place if 1-2 in La Liga also play the Cup final I guess.
