Roger Federer transcends the sport and is regularly in conversation along with the biggest sporting icons this planet has seen like Jordan, Ali and co. In terms of global impact on sports, he's right up there. The sheer aura is immense.

Like a certain Toni Nadal said recently "Roger Federer has transcended his sport."

It's called brand building and Roger is really good at it, if not the most succesful in tennis from a business standpoint.

I still dunno who your favourite player is!

Used to think you're an RF fan but then you post Rafa head to head leads and hail Nole's mentality.

Who's your favourite? Put the big 3 in order of your choice.

Rafa. But the big 3 is a rare exception where all of the GOATs have such merits of their own that you can't completely trash/downplay the others.

I don't think Federer's aura is like Jordan in 2022, by the way. It was until 2018, imo.

With the Jordan, the main reason for his aura is that he absolutely dominated his contemporaries. Fed can't make that case now in 2022.

In terms of worldwide recognition, marketability, impact on the sporting world and as an ambassador of Sports surely Roger has to be right up there?

You'll see people who don't even know the rules of Tennis still easily recognise Federer by face.

Insane crowd pulling ability all around the globe.

I mean worldwide recognition, crowd pulling ability, and stardom is a given at this level.

Jordan level is that + the invincible aura. RF to me is on Messi, CR7 level of stardom, just slightly below Jordan. The trio would be slightly above Lebron, Nadal, Djokovic.

Isn't Jordan's fame a bit too US centric though? Always thought about that...

Like most of the people who have seen him in action are Americans predominantly.

America and it's media's power and clout is insane globally no doubt.

Basketball as a sport is not that followed globally as a Tennis or Football.

Like me and so many people I have met just hate Basketball the sport.

What do you think about this??

There is not a corner in the world who doesn't know Jordan lol. He has the most iconic shoes of all time.

In general, US sports stars aren't full on worldwide athletes. That's why I didn't mention Brady. That's why Lebron doesn't get the highest level. But trust me, Jordan is different. Everyone knows him and his shoes.

That's fine.
Actually I'd say everyone KNOWS the name LeBron too.

But aren't these guys a bit too American in a weird way?

Like the viewership isn't as well distributed as a Football or a Tennis worldwide.....

Everyone knows MJ's name but how many of them non Americans have seen him in action.

This is an interesting and controversial topic.

Tom Brady is very famous and accomplished(I mean the man bangs Gisele Bundchen ffs:lol:) but how many non Americans have seen him hit a ball??

Isn't a lot of their fame powered by how much soft power US has.....?

I'm pretty sure NBA is watched more than tennis worldwide. Tennis is a bit niche sports, not as much action and dinamism like team contact sports.

When it comes to the Global South, Football is more popular, and so is Tennis to an extent. MJ may be a known figure, but the likes of Messi, Roger and CR are more revered and followed by its demographics. The likes of Messi and CR will amass greater audience than MJ from where I come from, and other southern countries.

Temptation I understand your point, but you being a huge Roger Federer fan I think somehow is blinding.

Michael Jordan is on the top of the mountain. Nobody is near him in terms of popularity and impact in any of the sports.

Roger Federer, again I'm saying arguably, is the top name in tennis, but my impression is that Serena Williams' retirement was much bigger news a week or two ago.
