He'll probably do it next year, the condition is that he keeps his good play and stops losing with idiotic mistakes such as his smashes today. This year he was close in the conditions that he had to battle Nadal on his favorite clay conditions. He can do to Rafa what Nadal did to Federer in 2008 after 2 close tries.
Nadal's hardest game in his Roland Garros history, him being 100% fit ( against Soderling he claimed he was "crippled" though I think he just wanted to freshen his mind after being beaten by the swede ), I still can't get it how Novak went from disturbingly dizzy to killing Nadal in his quick rebreaks, if he had the same mentality as Rafa or Roger, this guy would've killed this sport, too many ups and downs for him, Nadal's forehand winners are clearly not enough to beat a 100% Novak like he was in 2011 Wimbledon and US Open finals, not even on clay. We can sense the progress from last year, from losing 2-0 in Monaco to beating him 2-0, now he kept Nadal in extra-time, similar Nadal-Federer at Wimbledon, he's taking it slowly but surely towards a great upset in very close future.
