Playing a lower defensive line won't work as the team will be to "big". Under Pep the distance between our defensive and our attacking lines was 30 meters at most. If you want to make pace more irrelevant you are looking at roughly 60 meters between both lines. Now, that's all good and well when you have a midfield that can run marathons each game and win a lot of duels on pure physical qualities and determination. Teams like Bayern are doing that now. We can't because we don't have to players to do so. Iniesta and Xavi are great at winning the ball back whilst applying pressure but don't expect them to outmuscle someone. It's not our game. Therefore the high line and pacey defenders are necessary.
