Thiago Silva

Forget him! Great defender, great tournament. . . But too old, too expensive, "too" injury prone. . . . I thought I'd never say this but we should go for David Luiz.

Silva 2010/11 season: 43 games played - 1 yellow and 0 red cards. 09/10 44 games and 3 yellow and 0 red cards. 11/12 48 games 4 yellow and 0 red.
Some solid defending...

Notice how the yellows go up. . . . That's age taking its toll. We don't want to have another Puyol case (Best defender in the club being too old) all over again in some years.

That's a lot of games per season for an "injury-prone" player. How many did he play last season?

Pique 42 games played- 9 yellow cards 3 red cards.
I wonder what the number will be when he reaches Thiago Silva's age? :pep:

actually, he had less yellow in 10/11 season than 09/10 - and what I said is that he is solid. But going after him this season for +40M is madness, but dear oh dear he is sooo solid...

They could get him for a couple of seasons. That gap between Puyol and the youngsters could really hurt them, cause they still need to learn a lot. There should be one defender with the experience that he has.
Just like Xavi has to (be willing to) teach Thiago the things he knows.

He played around 40-45 for PSG. His red card this season was an absolute farce. He blew my mind from the first game I saw him play for them. He's like Iniesta, in defense.
The rumors about the 15% cut are probably a bit off the mark. 25% would be more like it, probably 30%.

The ref ran into Silva and than gave him a red card hahahaha, and than the ref looked like he was afraid of silva shaking while looking for the card.

This injury-prone talk is exaggerated. Excluding NT games, in his last 4 seasons he played 40, 42, 37 and 34 games, respectively. Also, he's a naturally strong and quick player. His age itself won't be a problem for at least 4 more years, and even afterwards he'll still be more than just usable. If you have to have an "old" player, the Thiago-Silva-type is the best option. An aging Pique is a much worse idea.
