Bayern Munchen legend Lothar Matthaus tore into the club's current central midfielder Thiago Alcantara and suggested the Bundesliga champions should consider selling him.
The 27-year-old Spanish international signed for the Bavarian side in 2013 as part of the Pep Guardiola revolution but in Matthaus's opinion, Thiago has flattered to deceive in big games.
He has come into heavy criticism in Germany following his role in the club's Champions League exit to Real Madrid and the German Cup final defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt
'Thiago hasn't made the difference in the big games,' Matthaus told Sport Bild. 'I actually rate him but he's been a shadow of his former self recently.
'Thiago has disappointed me in the past few weeks. I don't know where his head is. With these performances, he's not a player for Bayern Munich.'
With Thomas Muller, James Rodriguez, Corentin Tolisso, Sebastian Rudy, Arturo Vidal and new signing Leon Goretzka all providing stern competition for places in central midfield, Matthaus intimated that the club should be open to offers to sell the former Barcelona ace.
'If a suitable offer is on the table, then Bayern should think about it,' he added.
Since joining the club, Thiago has won five Bundesliga titles and two German Cups but it is his offerings in the Champions League - for which he has never helped navigate Bayern past the semi-finals - that have come under severe scrutiny.
Once a primary target for Manchester United, the Spanish midfielder is unlikely to be short of attention and offers with a reunion with Guardiola at Manchester City one possibility.
