Thibaut Courtois

It would be silly to go for Reina over him. Is La Masia automatically rated better than anyone now? La Masia only has that one good cycle of talent. They aren't consistent at all. That's why I think it's a tad overrated. Because the Pep era was so circumstance. But that's another argument for later.

No way this is going to happen, maybe some 'information' has leaked from the offices to make us seem to be trying to get a top rated keeper.

Yeah, we will end up with Reina anyway.

This. Zubi is already planning a damage control exercise when we end up with Reina and Pinto next year as goalkeepers as Ter Stegen will be signed by someone else and Mourinho will laugh in press conferences at the question of Courtois leaving for Barca like David Luiz

I don't get it btw. How come we don't just splash the cash on a single player if it's really needed and the opportunity arises? Not saying we should go like Madrid, Chelsea, PSG etc, but if a top rated keeper is needed and La Masia just doesn't produce the right player, buy him. We have the money...

La Masia is great and will produce many, many talents now and in the future. But sometimes the good generations are just too young to take a spot in the first team. Once in a while we can get a good player and pay a good amount of money; like Neymar or Fabregas (although the latter wasn't needed at the time, I know). If Courtois would have a limited sum in his contract, but I doubt he has it, try getting him!

I always wondered why some people at the club are so incredibly bound to La Masia or certain players they have a soft spot for. Reina is the perfect example of this. He is not better than what we currently have and is - at least in my humble opinion - not a world class keeper. If we can't groom ourselves a world beater, buy one. Ter Stegen is a great talent and in the back of my mind I do like the idea of a young and talented keeper, but when you see Courtois you know that he is thé player we should pursue.

Chelsea won't let him go whatever he wants to do, but it's worth it trying to figure out if there is a limited clause in his contract. If he really wants to come here and it is less than 50M (A LOT, I know. But that is the current market, I guess?), do it.

PS: How lucky are Atleti to have him for three years! Amazing business by Atleti, they are as a side the perfect level for him to develop. Not CL-contenders but a great team in the EL and a good 3rd in La Liga. I see a bright future for Courtois, a very bright future.

I would love getting him too, one of the goalkeepers that know already the leauge the languange.. His performances are very impressive now and with his age his development will be huge. He can easily be one of the top 5 goalkeepers in the world for the future. But.. the chances seem limited of this happening so i won't get excited.

Chelsea would be mental to let Courtois slip away, they may to sacrifice the twilight years of Cech to keep him which would be difficult given his service.

Cech was special when he first arrived in England - comfortably the best goalkeeper in Europe for a few years. Hasn't had the same consistency since that horrific head injury, but still turns it on when it matters most. By far the best goalkeeping performance i've seen in a CL final in 2012. Almost replicated it in the recent Super Cup.

As for Courtois, the best young goalkeeper in Europe, very much like a young Cech. Chelsea will have a difficult decision to next season. Cech may find after 10 years he wants another challenge, leave as a legend, and move abroad to persue further success. With uncertainty over Valdes future, one of them may very well end up at Barcelona.

I see more chance of Mourinho letting him go on a free in 2016 than selling to Barca. Not too mention by that time he's probably a starter for Chelsea, so is likely to extend his contract

Ronald Waterreus (former Dutch goalie) said he already is the best keeper in the world. I believe him :)
Courtois would be perfect for Barça and a high price tag would be justified considering his tender age. Buy him now and get a world class goalkeeper for the next 10-15 years.

Barcelona would need to break Buffon's record to get him. Chelsea wouldn't sell either.

Gtfo Barca! Courtois is our next keeper. He even recently said he has no problems competing with Cech or something along those lines anyway. Hope so!
