Lol, look at the wikipedia article now.

Wikipedia: Santiago Vergini (born August 3, 1988 in Rosario, Argentina) is an Argentine footballer currently playing for FC Barcelona. Vergini played World Cup 2010 in South Africa with the Argentine National Team and scored a hat trick in the final against Tahiti, which ended in a 19-2 win for the Argentines. Vergini is also rumoured to be a superhuman being, operating in Gotham City under the pseudonym "Batman", and in Metropolis as "Superman".

Hoping that this is complete nonsense !!

@barcastuff: Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas (26) has told friends in England that he wants to join English club Manchester United. [daily mail]

Even though it's Daily Fail I'll give it a fair chance to happen. Cesc Fabregas at Barca looks like a second fiddle player: second fiddle to Messi, second fiddle to Iniesta, second fiddle to Xavi. No matter how many matches he's played he never had a role merely for himself. That may has a effect on him about changing teams, going where he could feel more important, having a role in the starting eleven merely for himself not in the place of anyone else.

i'd be ok with us selling Cesc if we can get Gündoğan.

personally i dream of a future midfield consisting of Gündoğan, Óliver & Samper.

Everyone keeps saying that Cesc will stay blah de blah de blah but with Neynar's purchase that effectively closes the forward slots up - Messi /Neymar and one of Tello / Sanchez/ Pedro ( in that order , I feel ) so this season Cesc will have only slots in midfield and he's basically behind Busqs / Iniesta / Xavi so really he's going to be more of a bit player than last year . Not forgetting that the new manager will possibly bring in at least ONE new midfielder maybe more .

Putting myself in Cesc's place I'd be off to ManU . They will guarantee him a starting place , build a team around him AND double his wages to €10 million plus bonuses .... I'll be amazed if he stays here tbh.

Samuel is a great defender but I don't see how he fits us at all. He is far too slow for our high line, even three years ago when Benitez tried a high line with Inter he was made to look shit. He is also old and we should be looking for long term solutions.

Holy Sh!t ! Walter Samuel ? The player who wasn't good enough even for Argentina NT ?

New Barcelona coach Tata Martino has asked the club to only sign one more player this summer, a centre back. [mundo deportivo]

Only Vergini, then.

Well, I don't know what's up with Virgini's goal stats on wikipedia, but if Martino is thinking about him he can be a good addition. He would obviously be super cheap so we would save a lot of money from the transfer. Moreover, at 24 years of age, Vergini is a decent center back who would fit in with the Barca style nicely. He wins headers easily because of his height and is a superb header of the ball. He can launch precise long passes and find right or left forwards which would add a vertical dimension to our game. He's also a decent marker and wins balls cleanly. He has a physical presence and goes forward with the ball. He scores goals in corners and can even take penalty kicks.

He's avaliable for free this summer, his contract has ended and according to the rumours he doesn't want to renew.

Walter Samuel was the best Argentine defender in the last 12,13 years alongside Roberto Ayala. The reason he got omitted from the NT had more to do with his constant injuries in the last years, horrible injuries at times!

His link to Barcelona is funny not because of his quality (which is out of the question) but because of other factors such as his age, his record of injuries and his slowness which is completely the opposite of what it said to be the target of the Barca's management in finding a fast CB to partner Pique.

Presumably the new manager will know all about him and how to get the best out of him if we did pick him up for nothing .
