Well I can't watch anymore of this game ( Napoli v Porto ) but I can't see Mangala being the answer , especially at £50 million !!
Pretty sure he didn't touch the ball for the first 25 minutes but when he did he didn't 'seem' to have a very good touch .
He did make one crunching tackle from behind and luckily avoided a booking , it wasn't a pretty tackle by any means just a late one . He looks like a Samba type of player on this first look , seemed rather static and sluggish by .
Then he sprayed a nice long , left footed crossfield pass to the other side of the pitch and the commentator described him as elegant and stylish . Maybe it was just an off day as I didn't see him as elegant by any means , certainly not £50 million of elegance !!!

True but I saying that I'm just not impressed at all .
Second half , after two minutes he's just made another reckless tackle , a dangerous two- footed lunge on the edge of his own penalty box , to take out the forward. Very lucky it's a friendly type game as it should have been a straight red card .
He just looks reckless to me , I'd like to see how many yellow / red cards he picks up over a season normally .

Luiz has everything to be one of if not the best defender in the world.
At the moment he can be a bit reckless but if that gets coached out of him or if he matures he has everything in his locker to be the best on the world.
He is brilliant on the ball, powerfull, quick and good in the air. On top of that he has great personality and belief in his ability something that is huge for succeeding at Barcelona.
Of the players available he would be my choice far ahead of the other names mentioned like Agger and Vertonghen.

Looks more like Little Luiz
Incidentally , little stat on Mangala ..... Last season .
18 appearances inc subs
8 yellows
1 red.
Not impressed at all sorry and he looks far from agile if today's game is anything to go off .
As I said the nearest player I've seen like Mangala would have to be Samba . Both effective but sluggish and cumbersome and neither Barca material IMHO .
PS. I so wanted him to be the next 'coming' and be the answer to our defensive prayers but I don't see it .
I just pray that we get David Luiz but I know that I'm probably in the minority by having this view .

That's why he has been targeted by Barca for a long time. But you call him "of the players available". He is under long-term contract, and is not at all underpaid. His coach says he is not available. Luiz is very popular among the Chelsea supporters. Chelsea is not a selling club. Talking about Luiz going to Barca is selling a lot of papers, but that does not make it a possibility.
More likely would be a CB who is on the outs from his current club, or who is with a selling club. It might not be one of the top or potential top CBs in the world, it might not be anyone who will supplant the current Barca starters. But the team will improve the CB depth, there are lots of CBs available who could do that.
i don't know why the management is focusing on only premier league cb's as if they are the only one that can defend.the thing with premier league players is that they are just too expensive and over-rated. There are a lot of cb's we can sign for under 25m euros and they will improve our defence. Nkoulou will be my pick if i am the one to sign because he is young, cheap and experienced,defend first type of player and his team will sell for the right price but he is around 181cm (same height as puyol).

I mentioned a while back that playing/ training with Poyal would sort Luiz out, I reckon .
He's 6' 2" , virtually indestructible ( played 57 club games last season ) and has that much needed 'nasty' streak we could do with ( sick of seeing us bullied out of games ) .
I'll be really gutted if we don't get him and settle for Bartra .
