JamDav: Dunno about "different class". Hummels plays in a much better team. Martinez is kinda carrying Sociedad.

Carrying Sociedad? Are for real? Their whole team is good and he has not been their best player by any means this season. Prieto, Griezmann, Vela, Ilarremendi have all contributed to that team and been as good if not better than Martinez.

A few posts ago Amorebieta was unlucky to play in a poor Bilbao team according to you! When he was nowhere near one of their best players.

Some of your claims seem like you dont watch that much to be honest and are just trotting out names you have heard people mention.

Yeah lets say 'no to Hummels' and go for an average La Liga defender for free as he has done it in Spain.

Did I say to just sign Amorebieta? Nah. I want him & Martinez if possible. Rather than just one expensive dude (Hummels). Two for the price of (less than) one!

2 defenders are needed. Puyol is finished, Pique is in "lala land" and Masch is not as good as he was at CB. Abidal may never play again...

This. I'm not sure if Hummels is the best option because of his similarity to Pique (and his lack of speed), but I'm pretty sure he'd be a lot better than Amorebieta.

I do think there are better options than Hummels though, like Vertonghen. Maybe Subotic. MAYBE Inigo Martinez, since he's young, cheap and has a lot of potential, though I think we should go for someone a bit more experienced, since we need someone now, not in a few years time.

I think Martinez could be a good buy for depth though, if we have the money after buying a GK and a CB (which IMO has a good chance of happening if we sell a few players). Like some people, I also think we should get 2 defenders. One for depth (and to make sure Pique doesn't get too comfortable with his starting spot ) and one to start alongside Pique.

In what way has Martinez 'carried Sociedad'?

The stats dont show that in any way shape or form.

The way Zubi's been handling things, we are here hoping for hummels, vertonghen or martinez, but we'll end up with vermaelen or agger. Or worse.

Hummels is just another Pique. Vertonghen is a missed train. Martinez? Inigo? Could happen.
He's four times better than Pique, we can't trust Pique anymore, we're losing titles and he is one of the players to blame the most for that.

No one should be complaining about Martinez as a transfer option. Obviously he isn't currently at Hummels' level, given the fact that he is 3 years younger. Although he's been really, REALLY great for Sociedad and while he isn't carrying them, he remains one of their best performers overall. He's strong in the air despite not being that tall (like Puyol) and wins most of his aerial duels. Plus he is overall a tough and icy-nerved defender which is the best kind to partner with Pique, not Hummels. There should be at least one CB who is willing to do the dirty work and give it 100% the entire time. He's even scored 2 goals from the halfway line (which doesn't add to his credentials, but I thought would be cool to mention )

Vertonghen would be a dream come true but for now he remains the one that got away. Tottenham would be idiots to sell unless he wants to move which I doubt he does.

If Amorebieta is really cheap or even free then I don't see why we shouldn't get him? We have very little depth in CB, he gives a truly intimidating physical presence if we ever need one, and we wouldn't be as screwed from an injury crisis like we are now. I'm not saying he should be a starter, but for a very small amount of money, what's the harm in getting him?
