I completely agree. Though I'd prefer Hummels over Vertonghen if he's not too expensive. We'd need to get rid of a player or two, though.

The fact that you say that 'Hummels is untested in La Liga' as a reason not to sign him and then try to justify the fact Amorebieta is good enough for Barcelona as he is good in air.
He isnt Barcelona class in the slightest and thankfully the people at the club seem to think likewise.

Hummels is "untested" in La Liga. I've been saying Barça should sign Iñigo Martínez . A guy who plays in La Liga & knows the language (no adaptation). Amorebieta is free and his height & physicality would be a great help to this Barça team. Makes sense.
Now Iñigo Martínez is also a physical player (like Puyol) & young (21), strong in the air & has great ability to read the game. IIRC he has an 80% successful tackle rating. He also have over 80% successful passing. Sign him Tito. PLEASE

Barcelona need player stronger in the air than Martinez.
Who cares if he is untested in La Liga? The CL and international football is a higher standard than that as is arguably the league in Germany.
By that standard the club should not have tried to sign Tiago Silva last season as he is 'untested in Spain'.

Hummels is an incredible defender. He's proven himself at one of the best clubs and at one of the best national teams in the world. Plus, he's not as slow as some people here say. I wouldn't mind if we got him and Iñigo Martinez if they're not too expensive. But we'd need to get rid of Song or Masch or we'll have way too many players in central defense.
And Amorebieta is just not good enough. Even Song might be better at CB

Hummels is a different class of player to Martinez at the moment.

With Hummels we are looking at £25million at least in my opinion, he is one of the best CBs around butalso carries a large risk with him, I just don't know who Barca should go for, Agger and Vermaelen were players I thought would be ideal for Barca last year but this year both have looked suspect

Well according to some posters (like Emma) Hummels ain't for sale and has no release clause. Others say Hummels has a €37m release clause...
