The big difference is that he played under Martino for Newells, so Martino should know pretty good what he's bringing here. Which, of course, does not guarantee success in the end. But at least is a little bit assuring.

I'm sure that Samuel's positioning and awareness could be very useful for a team who is defending deep, but even if Martino is some kind of a magician, he can't possibly bring speed and pace out of him.

Samuel? He wouldn't be free though, he had signed a one year extension at the end of last season.
Also, Tata might be able to get the best out of what he is, but no matter what he can't turn back time. We need a younger defender not a temporary fix. That & he just wouldn't be a viable partner for Pique really.
Wally is still awesome though.

This guy doesn't like he has the style to play Barcelona's football.... and he looks slow. You may bring up Puyol, but Puyol had pace when he was younger.
From all the clips I've seen of him he looks quite nippy , far from sluggish tbh.
He's also extremely committed in the tackle and totally dominant in the air .
But there's probably a utube compilation showing Pepe to be a mild tempered , fair tackling player .

We still need to remember that this is still very much a rumor and nothing else, but if he indeed could come on a free transfer and Tata wants him, then saying that he has fail written all over him is just dumb.
we need 2cb's,vergini+ one of mangala,nkoulou,agger.getting only 1 cb is like planning to fail because if bring only one and pair with pique,our 3rd,4th,5th will be masch,puyol and bartra and so if one of the first choice pairing get injured or suspended and puyol is also injured as usual, whoever the replacement is will be a massive down grade from who we are replacing.the depth at cb is just too poor.

I'm kind of happy PSG chose Marquinhos over Luiz.
I don't think Luiz is bad, but as i said here a week ago, that guy is kind of crazy and doesn't play as CB 50% of the time.
Sure he scores more goals than other CBs, but he should understand that a CB job is defending.
And he does too many fouls, big tackles that can warrant him yellow/red cards. Complete opposite of TS for example who doesn't tackle often because he doesn't need to 95% of the time. Same about Hummels.

If the Gazzeta is to be trusted, Inter Milan is still trying to get Van Der Wiel from PSG.
This Rumor is around for quite some time. So far, the problem is not that PSG doesn't want to transfer him, it's the player who wants to stay at PSG.
