All teams from the major leagues sometimes rest key players for EL games (especially if they are facing a club from the lesser leagues) but everyone tries to win regardless.

The PL fans have been deploying the "we are losing in Europe because we are too good for it" excuse for too long now. I think it's quite a pathetic excuse.
Sevilla won't challenge for the league so they know they can put all their efforts into the EL.

United will try for the Europa League anyone saying they wont is lying.

Sevilla like virtually every top team rotate players in Europa and DONT prioritise over league.

JamDav is right, Sevilla prioritizes top 4 finish every season. However, things get twisted mostly in the second half of every given season. After the match vs. Juve (where we lost 2-0 away and had a pathetic performance, even though missing 4 key players), Emery just ditched the CL and he stated, as citing: "We cannot win the CL, so we will be concentrated in the league". Sevilla was on the verge of finishing 4th in the CL group, only a late Llorente goal vs. Juve at home made it possible to be here in EL.

Sevilla is very experienced in EL and EVERY team fears them in this competition. I would bet that even a big team would fear Sevilla in EL, way more than in CL or league. It's just Sevilla's thing... rolling in EL.

However, I am truly expecting something more from this team. We have to keep finishing 4th and create a squad for the future. I would like for this team to copy Atleti's recipe for success, even though it would mean ending up on a massive debt.

And to Frejsgodes, who is trying to act smart, YES... of course it's impressive. This Sevilla beat both Barca and RM at home this season, and beat a top club like Juve, so that is a bigger accomplishment than 90% of the teams from all over the world (even top 4 teams in all the top leagues). Besides, if we win EL this year, it would automatically mean that we were better than all the current participants, just as it means when Barca wins the CL, and the current participants of the EL include clubs like: Man Utd, Liverpool, Tottenham, Villarreal, Valencia, Bilbao, Fenerbahce, Porto, Dortmund, Shakhtar, Sporting Lisbon, Bayer Leverkusen, Napoli, Basel, Fiorentina, Lazio etc.

So yeah, it would be quite a great accomplishment at the end, and very impressive!

Nice post.

I don't think Sevilla will finish 4th if they won't start to win away games. They have only 6 home games left and I think they'll win all. Most important of them (besides Seville derby) will be a "6 point game" against Villarreal.

I've looked at Sevilla away schedule and they are visiting Camp Nou, Bernabeu, Mestalla and San Mames. Maybe they can win at Mestalla but I don't see them getting any points against other three. Then they have Rayo (this Sunday), Getafe, Sporting and Espanyol. This are all games that a team targeting 4th place should win.

Villarreal have 8 point advantage and I don't see them totally colapsing until the end of the season which will probably be needed for Sevilla to overtake them. Of course they still have to go to Pizjuan together with away matches against AM (on Sunday), Celta (they are currently out of form) and RM (I think they'll play good, but get no points there). Eibar, Rayo, Valencia and Sporting are all winnable games for them. Their toughest home game is against Barça. They have already beaten both RM and AM at home, so I could see them getting at least a point against us as well. They should also win against relegation candidates like LP, Getafe and Levante at El Madrigal.

Both teams are still alive in EL (I think Villarreal will have a tough time to survive in Napoli next week; and I also believe Sevilla will go further in the competition, so Villarreal could concentrate on La Liga, when they are out of EL) and both have enough depth in their squads and coaches who knows how to rotate between EL and La Liga matches.

Everything is possible but if I had to bet right now I'd say that Villarreal finish 4th and Sevilla win EL again.
