You really think he's worse than Haaland on the ball?

I think he is much better on the ball. But I agree he is a very Haaland-type physical player.
To me, he is better with the ball.
I suspect I would likely agree, but I have barely seen Gyokeres. He looked good on the ball in the few clips I have seen, but wayyy too small a sample size for me to make an assessment.

Haaland is clumsy on the ball in my opinion, so it wouldn't bode well if Gyokeres was worse. It would be a red flag I think.

I feel Haaland is clumsy, but then he's playing in a Pep's team. That seems to be a misnomer.
Those 4/5 seasons at Brighton until his breakthrough at Coventry are a bit of a worry though.
There was a video detailing his stint at Coventry. Let's just say, it was an unfortunate circumstance and other stuff affecting his performance. Like getting Covid, and then long Covid, while the team had already settled.
I will link it if I can find it.

Will be at Man U next season. Man U signed this Sporting coach exactly for this reason. They are desperate to finally hit on a young talent. Hojlund and Zirkzee aren't "It."

What's funny is they will soon be a mixture of past managers players. You have the Ajax/Dutch gang, soon the Sporting Lisbon guys for this new manager. All from weaker leagues that aren't as proven as the T5 ones. Gyokeres seems good but it's Portugal.

You're welcome

Looking forward to see how he (and the whole Sporting team) will do vs City and Arsenal in their next two games. Started with 7 points from 3 games so even if they lose both should still be in a good positon to advance. But would like to think they can get at least a point considering they play both games at home. And hopefully Gyo will score a goal or two.
looks slow as hell

Hojlund and Zirkzee are definitely far from good enough, agree. Though some of their fans hold out a lot of hope for Rasmus - I feel they're deluding themselves. He's big, quick and strong but poor technically and I don't rate his movement or killer instinct. He shows decent glimpses here and there and he's young, but nah, not having him.

Concur with the second paragraph as well. It's risky to purchase players (and get coaches) from good but not elite leagues. It sometimes works out but definitely a risk. And Ten Hag bought so many players he worked with previous - he clearly had a big say in their signings. Who's to say Amorim will like these players?

To me he's a bit like Haaland. Physical no-nonsense CF. More of a bum on the ball than Haaland though.
It's the opposite really, he's much better on the ball then Haaland. While Gyokeres is fast for his size, Haaland is even quicker though.

100% when it comes to Amorim he will definitely want the team in his image. These Dutch players are about to be a major pain. They get paid a lot and will be hard to move as well with underperformance. It's kind of like Barca with Fati/Ferran/Lenglet. Who wants to buy Antony for example.

He's easily better than Haaland on the ball. Also not really that much slower. Has a top speed 34,5 km/h in CL compared to Haaland's 35,7. And more involved in the game and can create for team mates rather than just finishing.

I think he would be a great fit as a pressing forward for Flick's system but just don't think timing is right. He'll leave Sporting in summer and Lewy will stay here until 2026. But if it would be up to me I would take Gyo as Lewy's replacement without thinking twice.

Why? He's a late bloomer. But if you sign him now you get a top player in his prime for 3-4 years and nobody will care about what he did earlier in his career.

Really interesting retrospect. Thanks.

Perhaps. Admittedly I haven't watched him at Sporting much bar Porto games and the odd CL tie. I guess that's my bias and being apprehensive before seeing him consistently in a top league.

I watched Samu's hat trick against that midtable Porkchop team for example and I tell you what, about 60% of those Portuguese League sides are LaLiga2/Championship level. So the data and performances are extremely skewed, which is why you have to take the striking performances over there with a pinch of salt. Especially if there are holes in the game like technique, speed, etc.

Now saying that, surely is Man Utds big striking signing to follow Amorim, and you can't blame any of the three sides for that punt.

I do think though, if Amorim is the top manager they think he is, and if he can bring that in a higher pressured environment that first they should see if he can bring the best out of Zirkzee and Hojlmund first. Two very very high potential forwards who could really hit it off with the right changes.

Timing for him doesn't seem right, he also isn't a big name that Laporta would probably want for our next 9. Everything points to Haaland in 2026, it just makes sense for Haaland and for us. I wouldn't bring him, I like my players with a little technical skill but Laporta will buy him for the new CN if possible.

Cant really say who he resembles. But for me he seems to be the most complete striker at this moment.

Has the strength to overpower defenders. In the Lille game, he was constantly around 2 even 3 defenders, and was able to bully them for chances.
Has a good enough first touch to play the CF role, do combinations, and progress the ball further.
Has speed and burst too. Seen him outrun the defender for half the pitch and then score a goal, or cross it.
Isn't a player who shoots and then prays it goes in. Composed enough in front of the goal to position the shot well.
It is often on pockets of spaces in the box without a defender marking. Shows he has that no.9 instinct. Losing a marker seems to be easy for him
Sounds like a complete striker. I'm sure big clubs will be in for him(if not already).

He is a great goalscorer with terrific physique. Those are his strengths.

He's not the type to create chances out of nothing. If he's not worse than Haaland on the ball then at best he's slightly better, hard to say. It doesn't matter though because it's far from Aguero, Benzema, Suarez, Lewy level to be a strength of his.

Haaland is scoring goals without dribbling and he will too with the right service.
