These people are all fucking pathetic. The outrage is insane. It's like a eulogy.

It's also pissing me off how disrespected Rodri is. They're acting like it's an utter joke he won it over Vini, when it's actually very reasonable and likely the right decision.

These guys put far too much importance on this award anyway. I don't need a publicity-heavy award to tell me Rodri is the best player in the world - I watch him. Same as I don't need Messi to win the BD or the World Cup to tell me he's at worst a top three player ever with Maradona and Pele.

This was one of the years that nobody really stood out from the rest. There were no aliens like Messi or even Cristiano. Also RM votes were split between Vini, Bellingham, Carvajal and even Kroos, which again proves that Vini didn't solo carried RM. This is the dumbest football saga i've seen in a while. A bunch of idiots with social media accounts and an entitled club that behaves like a spoiled rich kid.

The notion that Footballers know more about the game than the fans is a joke. There's a reason why so many Footballers miserably fail as managers.

Arrigo Sacchi was a shoe salesman but understood the game better than every world class Footballer.

Most Footballers are thick as pigshit and have the IQ of a celery.

Yes.

Like Arrigo said, I didn't know you had to be a horse to be a jockey, or words to that effect.

I had this conversation with another poster - playing football can help a lot in understanding. It has helped me. BUT that is only true if the intelligence and understanding is there at a base level to begin with. Then playing can enhance it. But plenty of new players have such a rudimentary view of the game they are playing. Like the image I posted in the Bruno thread, it is getting worse now - modern players, certainly attackers (though some past players are at it in the twitter quotes above too) think football is about getting their G/A up quite often.

Look at Rio Ferdinand - spouts constant bollocks. He also keeps repeating that scoring a goal is 'the hardest thing in football' - that does my head in. Technically it is true, but that doesn't mean THE SCORER had the most challenging part, which is what he is implying with that. He isn't implying on a team, collective level. The guy is so moronic.

It's getting worse.

Scoring goals is the toughest thing to do for a team because opponents are set up to stop goals. Opponents aren't necessarily set up to stop you from dribbling or passing for instance. The contribution of the goalscorer varies depending on the type of goal.

Rio is painfully dumb and a terrible pundit.

That's my point. It's the hardest thing to do on a team level. And sometimes the goalscorer does the thing in the move/goal with the highest degree of difficulty, sometimes he doesn't.

But that idiot (good description of him) just makes a general, blanket, universal statement that 'scoring is the hardest thing in football' (meaning the goalscorer) with no context behind it whatsoever.

In a way his statement is like a microcosm of football in general - lots of statements thrown out which look great on the surface, but dig deeper and they seem more superficial. I think this is the biggest problem with footballers - not that they're low IQ really, but that plenty of them have surface level thinking.

To be fair, footballers in certain countries seem more intelligent.

Probably true for a lot of the most talented and athletic players.

The ones with the highest football IQ seem to be those technical midfielders without the athleticism or 1v1 dribbling ability to get them by so have to become students of the game like a Pep, Arteta, or Alonso.

Xavi? Pirlo?

El Gato

Villarato!
Carvajal being in contention is madness.

I think football is on a downward trajectory and will never recover.
Absolutely nothing mad about it
Best RB last season by miles

The first fullback since Carlos to get up that high through sheer volume of involvement in all comps

Decent
