Vinícius Júnior

These people are all fucking pathetic. The outrage is insane. It's like a eulogy.

It's also pissing me off how disrespected Rodri is. They're acting like it's an utter joke he won it over Vini, when it's actually very reasonable and likely the right decision.

These guys put far too much importance on this award anyway. I don't need a publicity-heavy award to tell me Rodri is the best player in the world - I watch him. Same as I don't need Messi to win the BD or the World Cup to tell me he's at worst a top three player ever with Maradona and Pele.
That's what Madrid's PR did to world football this time. For months they ran campaign for Vinicius, made everyone believe he already won, ignore the fact that Rodri was also a favourite to win as well.

So with the belief that Vinicius was already the winner, they thought Rodri steal from him, while the truth is this year nobody knew before the ceremory.

Real Madrid claimed something that did not belong to them. Nothing more than a cowardly thief.

One of the guys of the ballon dor bosses: “I had a lot of pressure from Real Madrid, but as with other clubs, I was always clear. We made it very clear to them and all the other clubs: this year, the winner would not be notified. All the clubs of the favorites insisted on receiving the information. I thought everyone had agreed, but at the last moment, I don't know why, some people panicked and wanted to change the rules. Maybe they had a feeling, maybe the Clásico didn't help. I'm not sure if they were 100 percent sure that Vinícius wouldn't win the Ballon d'Or,” said Garcia.

Carvajal being in contention is madness.

I think football is on a downward trajectory and will never recover.
Some journalists who are still living in the Messi vs. Cristiano era world when the only question was who won CL or international trophy that year. I joked about Carvajal in the summer, deserving of BdO because he won it all. Same scenario with Varane in 2018.

Xavi? Pirlo?
Fair examples, but I would say it's not a 100 percent success rate. I admit I am surprised that Xavi has not turned out to be an exceptional coach (so far), but I would say Rassvet's point stands in that midfielders are more likely to know about the game tactically because of spatial awareness, technique etc. They seem fairly well represented as coaches.

Real definitely knew he hadn’t won.

Vini literally had like 2 months worth of good football and they felt he was the undisputed best player? In the first half of the season he dealt with injuries and when he played he was outshined by Bellingham who was getting the BdO shouts till around Feb/March. His 30 day period were he faced City x2, us and Bayern x 2 is were this shout started coming from. He was fantastic in that period no doubt but that doesn't mean he was owed a BdO because of 5-6 games. Each person had a case for and against, as in every individual award it was about PR, Rodri PR won over that of Vini and Bellingham PR.

Aragorn speaks:

Vinícius Jr. has been accused of being a 'spoiled child' by Real Madrid fan Viggo Mortensen, best known as Aragorn from Lord of the Rings 😳⚔️

🗣️ “Real Madrid, after finding out that their spoiled child was not going to win the Ballon d’Or and the child was furious and sad, said that the club does not go where it is not respected. And the decision was made to support Vinicius Jr. and his tantrum about not going to Paris for the awards ceremony.” he wrote in a letter published in El País

😤 “It’s being a bad loser, period. I am a Real Madrid fan, but I think that if the club does not go where it is not respected, it is the club’s fault for this type of stupidity, this unsportsmanlike and arrogant conduct. Hala Madrid! always, but how embarrassed this makes me”

Viggo always had fun takes
Called out Mou's Tito antics
Apparently been to a party and ended up with a bunch of Ultras and had to find way out when things were starting to feel funny with their colourful takes being called out

It's kinda small team move to boycott entire ceremony due to one player ego.

Maybe they backed him to close the ranks as team felt shaken after Clasico and overall underwhelming performances. These things can work short term for a team of Madrid stature. But only short term. You can't make players who just won everything months ago so delusional to believe us gegen die Welt.

Sounds like it came from the very top tbh, sure Vinicius is a crying baby but no one from Real Madrid turning up sounds like a Perez decision. Wouldn't surprise me if his regular ballon d'or contacts had convinced him Vinicius had won it, only to be wrong at the last minute, Perez throwing toys out the pram and making executive decision for no one to go

Is that a wind up? Ballon d'or boots, 5 hour TV shows, parties. All over a politicised individual award. I honestly think most players would rather win the BD than the World Cup.

What the fuck is happening to the game?

Xavi? Pirlo?
Pirlo coasted a bit off his insane talent. Based on those quotes of his, he had a super laid back attitude and just went out and played without giving too much thought into it. Scholes kind of similar in that regard.

Xavi seemed like more a student of the game, but probably should have been an assistant for Pep or somewhere else first to learn more beyond what worked for Barca/Spain at their peak.
