Virgil van Dijk

His peak, while high, didn't last all that long.

His peak was probably the most dominant performance by a CB in a whole year that I can consciously remember as a football fan. I would say a Ballon D'Or wouldn't have been undeserved.
What followed was another 1 and a half year of worldclass, but not as good as his peak season. The rest was a bag of ups and downs.

He will be one of the players who will always be favourably referred to as "peak Van Dijk" in discussions because he's ultimatively not one of those guys who has spend a decade competing for spots in the TOTY, and that's also he won't go down as a top 5 defender of this generation.

Peak Van Dijk is a microcosm of the whole Liverpool team under Klopp.

Incredible peak but way too short, with the gap between on and off form way too large.

Other managers, teams and players have drop off seasons, but not like Pool.
