The team played below par last night but still could have scored five or six and could step up a couple of gears. Masche with Gago is a good balance , Gago with a clueless numpty like Brana is not. He is terrible playing domestically so why an earth he was called remains a mystery. Better Cirigliano Masche's heir apparent or possibly Centurion got the call.
Romero needs to learn how to kick the ball still and Fernandez while he has great potential needs to avoid the curse of the modern day defender. Don't watch or grab your opponent but watch the ball at setpieces and attack it.
di Maria continues to grow which is pleasing. Hopefully before long Sanchez Mino, Ansaldi, Banega get called and an outside bet if he does well Emmanuel Herrera at Montpellier as a possible 9 candidate. Licha has done well but again by 2014 will he be near his best or past it ?
As for Higuain in 2010 ? He couldn't do anything because the managerial genius of Maradona had decided to play two wingers in midfield (at a time when di Maria had no idea how to play in that area) and an inept centreback (two if you include Heinze) at fullback. Just needs to step up his conversion ratio and Argentina will have more games wrapped up by halftime.
The pleasing thing is the threat carried by the team upfront , the counter, the improvement of di Maria and Romero to an extent, the promise of Fernandez. Midfield still needs tinkering as does defence. And please do not allow Lavezzi to play again for the seleccion. Lazy and a waste of space.
