Argentina have no midfield and no defense.

They'll be lucky if they make it to the quarters at World Cup. Unfortunately Messi will get blamed but that midfield was beyond pathetic, they couldn't string a couple of passes together.....

So how long have I been watching football?literally before you were even born!

The Colombian ref was horrible. Too soft on the harsh tackles by Peru. Watch a replay to see what I am talking about.

With all due respect to the Colombians but football refs, placing bets and drugs mix well in that country. In 1994 Escobar was shot after a mistake in WC, reason some drug lord lost tons of money after the US won. in 2000 I remember a ref was killed.. and many other examples. Anyway I felt he was biased nothing more. figure of speach. anyway good night!

Well said. He was beyond the pale. The Peruvians had two clear red cards not given. One for a studs up challenge on Masche , the other on Rojo. There was no intention from the Peruvian player to play the ball but instead to aim a kick to the head.

However Sabella deserves criticism. He has unbalanced the side in order to accomodate the near useless Lavezzi. Only two players in midfield is not going to help and when one is Gago who was off colour last night it exacerbates the problem.

Neither fullback aside from Rojo once or twice even ventured forward. It made the Peruvians job of defending that much easier. There was no easy outball into midfield and when it was received Gago elected to go back or Masche had his back to play. Sosa would have been a welcome addition believe it or not.

The side can pass as shown against Germany and in phases against Paraguay but last night was a return to Batista/Maradonesque midfields. The Peruvians played a tight press and did it well forcing long ball after long ball due to the absence of a midfield and outball. Consequently Higuain and Messi and di Maria became spectators. Sabella was not pleased and I am sure he will realize the folly of playing Lavezzi. Far better would have been a collective player like Maxi.

Romero did quite well and Campagnaro too was solid and reliable and vocal too in organizing the defence. Garay needs to be removed. Very weak . Fernandez is great on the ball as in setting up the goal and reading the play but he needs to attack the ball aerially as he does in the opposition box at corners. He just remains stuck on the ground. He needs coaching from El Raton and first team football.

Messi will get the blame ? Where does this nonsense come from ? It's an exaggerated claim. That said he needed to demand the ball and try and make things happen and urge his team on. Aside from Masche there are no natural leaders on the team.

In response to the Peruvians fouls someone like Sensini from a previous era would have made his mark on their players for instance. The team needs to match that aggression.

Next match play some genuine fullbacks and balance that midfield. Higgy, Leo and di Maria don't need an idiot like Lavezzi ruining things. Besides that he hardly ever works back and wasted a glorious pass from di Maria.

----------------------Mascherano-------------Banega------------------------
----Gaitan/Sosa-------------------------------------------------------------

Uruguay and Chile ? The former will need to come out and play and Chile under Borghi are not going to take a step backwards which will suit the side.

what about higuain elbow to Zambrano on the first half or Di Maria blatant kick to Farfan's chest that lead to the penalty?
Any one of those could have been a straight red, stop talking shit, Argentina was terrible today plain and simple

Higuain retaliated and di Maria was trying to play the ball unlike the attempt's your players were making. Thugs. And cheats rolling around at the slightest touch. Farfan was shot several times and miraculously came back to life. The referee was an absolute clown. Don't worry you'll get a warm reception in Buenos Aires.

Sabella had a gameplan but it is only good as it's players. Many of whom underperformed. That said his gameplan was flawed. Midfield is where games are won and lost. Everyone knows that. Having one and a half players in there did not help. Lavezzi is what Tevez was to Maradona and Batista a poisoned chalice.

Enzo Perez, seriously?

If there is one thing Sabella can do it is get rid of his Estudiantes fixation. Gaitan can perform his role better or indeed Maxi who was scandalously left on the bench with his footballing experience and intelligence.

The local lineup though looks interesting and I hope some of the ones picked force their way into the seleccion quickly. Players like Mino, Mugni, Centurion for example.

Argentina's biggest problem now seems the midfield. What about Pastore in gaitan's place? Yesterday I think garay was better than fernandez.

Messi thinks the Peru game was more a fight than football and "The pitch did not exactly help either". There's so much to be said about this Argentina team is put together but in the world cup the only sport to be played is
football.

Frustrating to see Sabella include Enzo Perez and Pablo Guiñazú in the team. we need Pastore for the love of God, why is he not even called? Peru will be paid back with dividends in Argentina!

and then these same guys complain about violence on the stadium
Di Maria's kick unintentional? with the ball one meter away from his reach
Higuain retaliated? that's BS and it doesn't matter why he did it. That was a red if the ref had seen it.
Don't even mention divers or cheaters when you have Di Maria on your team, the guy did one of his usuals endless rolling in the middle of the pitch on second half, then "came back to life miraculously"
Never in my life I have seen Argentina complaining about rough games, there are countless Argentine players through history who played football that rough and with refs complacency in Conmebol

Seems like many users either blind or haven't seen any Conmebol games before...

Argentina always had a pretty good & wide selection of the dirtiest defenders /Midfielders in history , I put them up there with the famous Uruguay team of WC 86

Gago off color last night ? when was the last time you saw Gago anywhere but off color ? not since Boca days...

Your players were a collective disgrace. Get some spectacles. di Maria attempted to play the ball before the cunning human lawnmower decided to fall over looking surreptiously at the referee to see if he could earn a penalty. di Maria yes he dives around but he was kicked several times. That was all you lot could do . Play rough.

A European referee unlike the clowns that inhabit CONMEBOL would have sorted that out straight away.

Had some of the players of yesteryear been around like Ruggieri and Sensini we'd have seen the favours returned in spades. There were 2 red cards not awarded by the clown of a referee. A clear studs up challenge on Mascherano and that kick on Rojo.

Sheer thuggery. In the end it won't matter because you won't be there in 2014 anyway. Be prepared for a nice warm welcome in BA.

Don't be unfair. He was excellent for us and for a very young kid for the first year and a half. Manchester City coming in and trying to purchase him fucked him over and he never recovered + he succumed to the Drake in him and grew into a full pussy.

Ehm City tried to purchase him when no one else was going there... Gago didn't have a good season in any of the clubs he played with since Boca & especially with Real
he never presented anything on the pitch except being a pussy & a huge liability

I will never forget his performance vs Liverpool ..

Every team in CONMEBOL plays dirty, latin football culture is equally about skill and thuggishness.

Argentina is far removed fron the Bilardo days but all great sides had their share of hardmen.

I don't see the Ayala /Simone generation any different from Bilardo team... in fact i think the Ruggeri /Brown /Batista (Maradona ) team was less dirty

and yes it's always been an integral part of the CONMEBOL with the exception of Brazil who always tried to focus more on the trickery than thuggish style
