WC Qualifiers 2018 - South America

I strongly think that Uruguay is currently stronger than Brazil, frnakly it has got nothing to do with the players one-by-one but rather it's about the overall team itself and friendship. I believe that if they dispute let's say 10 straight matches this year, Uruguay would win at least 5 of them and 2-3 of them would be draw.

Well besides this being the most talented Uruguayan generation since possibly the 70s, and indivdual talent on the defensive end better than all but a few nations in the world, the chemistry and teamwork is really what brings it all together. Tabarez has really been the best international coach in the world for the past few years, he's formed an extremely flexible system that can play both attacking and defensve football depending on the context, and the players buy into the system 100%. Plus Uruguay being such a small country means the players have a bond that Brazil or even Argentina can't replicate, where the players not only come from very different socio-economic backgrounds but even geographical.

The sad thing is the return to respect is probably what is going to undo Uruguay in the long run. One reason both Brazil and Argentina have been miserable when it comes to teamwork is because players are poached by European clubs at a young age, and the good ones that stay are overindulged. Uruguayans haven't been as heavily scouted but that is clearly changing.

I forgot to mention, my favourite Chilean club, Universidad de Chile, won the Copa Sudamericana :worthy:

It's been an epic year for them.

Sorry, don't know any reccomended link. There's a couple when I search for it on google but none seem particular reliable. I've only seen the highlights from the second leg myself sadly.

Worth trying though. La U has been spectacular this year. Some of the best football in the world. Sampaoli models his managing style after Bielsa after all and you can definitely see the results.

It's a good time for Chilean football, Bielsa has really sparked a revolution. I just hope whatever European club breaks the bank for Eduardo Vargas doesn't ruin him.

Universidad is one of the best teams in world football. Give a damn what these eurocentric bastids say.

If I didn't have finals right now I would have caught the final.

And there are no words for Biesla. Goddamn legend.

Yeah, I finished finals today so I'm flooding the board for Universidad propaganda. It's been an amazing year, I'm glad I was in Santiago when la U won the apertura. Of course I was also in Argentina when River was relegated, so let's just say this summer/winter revived my passion for South American football. Just wish the rest of the world would give Universidad the credit it deserves.

And I'm sure as hell glad that Bielsa is coaching Athletic. It's great being able to see a Bielsa team weekly, especially for a club I've always liked. Between Bielsa, Batistuta and Messi, the only thing keeping me from being a Newell's fan is my dedication to Buenos Aires.

Colombia's arguably most successful club, América (de Cali), has been relegated to the Primera B.

What a strange year for South American football...

I'd say those things often happen in south american football .
This year, Cruzeiro, one of Brazil biggest teams, almost got relegated to the serie b. And corinthians, that won this year, was relegated to serie b in 2008.

Well there's always some big shocks and most clubs are financially unstable, this is one of the consistent powerhouses of Colombia and I don't think they were ever relegated in history. The Argentine media is comparing them to River.

¿Sos Boliviano?

I'm afraid Bolivia isn't going to be more than a spoiler a this point, they are always dangerous in La Paz but very weak away. Bolivian football still is behind the rest of the continent in development, from what I can tell there's been improvements but the other weak sides, Venezuela and Peru especially have been improving far more. Right now every team in CONMEBOL is competitive and so Bolivia is easily outmatched.

If you don't know the current qualification status here's a good overview: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(CONMEBOL)

As far as streaming goes there is definitely ways to watch online, but you are going to have to check back here on match day.

Soy Americano. But I am a wannabe Argentine. :p. Would love to go to Bolivia, La Paz is one of my top destinations and hopefully I'll get the chance next time I can travel to South America.

Do you follow the Copa Libertadores at all? Bolivian club Bolivar beat reigning champs Santos in La Paz, giving them a slight chance at pulling off an upset!
