Messi will probably win the Golden Boot in the first game against Nigeria, but i've gone for the ever consistent David Villa. Robin Van Persie is a good shout aswell, potentially there are some players and teams who could win the golden boot/score the most goals and not even make it to the Semi-Finals.

Valencia CF says hi.

He's also kept up his 2 goals per 3 game record in friendlies/qualifying even with Torres out..go figure.

Only those who haven't watched him regularly for Valencia would've u believe otherwise. He can play both the lone and SS efficiently. Hes a bit more suited to the latter. But hes such a versatile striker with an all round ability. He can be your poacher, pacy and direct while also drop deeper and be a part of the build-up & assist his fellow striker. And even for his height, he is quite good in the air. His finishing, off the ball movement, first touch, ball control, reading of the game is a lot superior than La Niña. Not to forget, hes more skillful and versatile. Torres is only better at one thing - stronger header of the ball. But then he also a physical advantage over DV.

Anyway, as for the poll...
Fabiano or Pooney. The former has a great strike rate for his NT while Brazil also usually tend to go far in the tournament. Pooney has had a very productive season. So i'm expecting him to take his form in to the WCs as well.

Obviously i want Villa to win the golden boot...so the above was also an attempt at a jinx as they are villa's two main contenders.

:)

*Every opposition 'll be looking at closing down Leo. Most likely, he 'll 've a marker or two on him always. And its easier to contain him when hes playing for his NT much to the ineptness of his coach and his fellow teammates to an extent. He'll help his team play and assist but i doubt he'll be netting in the max.

I go Higuain. Messi is a great passer and everyone will be paying close attention to him so it will benefit his teammates. Gonzalo just needs to finish like he does for RM and he'll take it.

i originally voted Fabiano but i have a gut feeling about Van Persie

@Pepe Silva- Would Diego Milito not start for Argentina, as he is better than Higuain?

Usually, the winner's top striker is the top scorer of the WC. I think Spain will be triumphant, so I'll go for David Villa.

Don't get me wrong, DMilito is great and he is exciting to watch but he is not even close to the same level as Higuain is right now. He certainly likes to take it to defenders, and I admire his ferocious attitude, but Higuain is a proven killer in the open field. I believe DMilito will start from the bench. Once Higuain's timid and humble attitude gets lifted from him (if it hasn't been already), he will be loosed like a rabid demon. Let's just hope Messi can score some goals too!

Higuain is overrated IMO, he is really greedy and disapears in big games, Milito doesn't, and Milito is a killer finisher, you just need to look at his goal record

actually higuain doesn't disappear in big games (unless the classico and superclasico aren't big games )

his problem is reial, generally, are shit in big games.

and higuain is a finisher, a predator, etc. and relies on service to make an impact. when he doesn't get that service, or gets it erratically, he struggles. especially as he can't really hold the ball and make something from nothing ala milito and tevez.

he does have a problem with the CL, not scoring at all before this season and now he has a zlatan-style KO round problem. but all he needs is one goal to get over that hump and he'll be fine. look at zlatan this season. scored a scrappy one vs. stuttgart, then had the confidence to molest arsenal.

seriously... dude has scored two goals each in el classico and el superclasico, which are pretty much the two biggest club games in the world.

Not true. I've seen you mention tht quite a few times. He is no Drogba at holding the ball and bringing other in to play but hes not shite either. Hes been decent whenever its required of him. So I wouldn't really classify tht as a 'weakness' in his game. He also converts the half chances better than both Milito and Tevez. His volley with his back to the goal(dont remember the opposition) was awesome. And i agree with Pepe he can be a ruthless finisher on his day. But hes also not just a finisher, he has a good game in him. Showed tht in 08/09 when he had a bit more freedom on the pitch but this season his movement been restricted due to the arrival of Thongboy. He has a lot of potential, whether he can fulfill tht at Madrid remains to be seen.

He refused to pass to the Thongboy against Lyon, tht already made him an instant legend in my book. And Long may it continue! :hooray:

My fav striker from the current crop. Hate the fact tht he plays for them. I'd take him for Barca in a heart beat. Sec fav striker after villa and he looks the bomb in La Albiceleste shirt. I'm hoping he has a good WC. :D
(He does 've an abysmal record in Europe, needs to improve there :()
