You just said those you've in the list take penalties regulary AND have taken them on the biggest stage under lots of pressure. i fail to understand when has Messi ever taken them under lots of pressure?

What Chucka said. Has Arteta or Murphy been under this pressure? Although its not that great but definitely better than them

RVP should have probably been included!? Especially when the likes of David Villa, Lampard, etc. who do miss penalties more than occasionally are included!! Not once to my knowledge did RVP miss one!!

But of the list, Ronnie all the way :)
LOL @ Lampard missing penalties more than occasionally. He's missed like 2 in the last 7-8 years(don't know if that's the exact number, but I only remember him missing twice, once for England and one recently).

One last season I suppose, had to put it in on rebound if I remember right... But seriously RVP is at least as good as Lampard if not better

Never said RVP isn't good, he's very good but Lampard doesn't miss often, one of the most reliable in the world. I like Ballack's penalty style.

Ronaldinho! The amount of times he hits the SIDE NET of the goal from PKS is amazing with power, and pretty much always sending the keeper the wrong way... WOW WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

It's funny how you justify Messi's inclusion by bringing up an injury time goal in a league game early season....But that still doesn't comply to your selection criteria.

I included only big names because those big names are the ones that take penalties on regular basis and in the biggest possible stage under lots of pressure.

So Messi is an exception to the above?

Murphy has taken them under similar pressure for his team. Elano is another one who did it while he was at city and i don't think he's ever missed one yet.
As for Messi, he used to alt them with Eto'o before and now does it with Zlatan. He has also missed a few. Neither has he taken them "on the biggest possible stage under lots of pressure"
Messi is one of the best players in his position but he certainly isn't one of the best at PKs yet. Only the very biased Cules 'll think otherwise. :p
Anyway, i 've a ques for you...
If you'd to pick between Messi and Hargo in a WC final Shoot off to take the peno which decides your team's fate, who would that be ?(honest reply pls) :p

I dont know if you got my point but for sure you can argue that there are better penalty takers than Messi (like Arteta and Murphy, in your case) but we also could argue that Messi is better than them, its a personal opinion. For me Messi edges them because he's the #1 penalty taker for Barca (he used to share penalties with Eto'o but not with Ibra) who's arguably the best team on the planet and the #1 penalty taker for Argentina, who is one of the leading countries in world football and he also has a good record in penalties (2 misses in his career) which for me gives him the edge on a guy who has a similar record in penalties but takes them only for Fulham, Everton, or Galatasaray and barely even features for the national team.

Lets say Messi is a special case  but most of the players I included fall under the category of taking them under real pressure and taking them regularly.

Anyway, i 've a ques for you...

For sure Hargo, look at my very first post and you will see how high I rate his penalties. In my first post I said I wouldnt include him or the likes of him because they dont take it under high pressure (which is not true in Hargos case) or that they dont take it regularly (which is true in his case).

I woud choose Hargo over Messi because I like Hargos confidence, accuracy, and power while taking a penalty. On the other hand Messi has confidence and accuracy but not power which is a bit risky and I dislike. I even rate Ibra, Rossi, and Villa higher than Messi in penalties but it wouldnt be right to leave Messi out of the list and put instead of him Rossi/Arteta just because their style "isnt risky for me". Messi's record in penalties speaks for itself and Im still convinced I did the right thing by listing him.

Graham Alexander

has never taken a penalty in the biggest stages with the biggest pressures, both internationally and for his club.

as a statistic his record is staggering, but put into context it's much less impressive.
