Not really. Liverpool are another example and city won plenty and were the best in Europe before haaland without the bigger striker

Pep is the only who can play that type of football.
And still hasn't won a CL with City with false 9s.

In upcoming seasons, with Haaland, a totally, different story.

Further, it will be interesting to follow NT teams in 2022'.
In 2018, all top4 teams had a classical big and strong No9 paired with 2 pacey wingers.

France with Giroud
Croatia with Mandzukic
Belgium with Lukaku
England with Kane

In 2022, France again has Giroud.
England has Kane.

Germany have a weird no9/false 9 in Havertz.
And Germany is already struggling.

Argies have a short no9 in Lautaro.
Spain will follow the same path, it seems.

We'll see whether a tall+strong No9 paired with two pacey wingers will win a Wc again.

Dont need a big number 9 to win but if there is one available that can cope techincally it solves many issues.

Pep for example scored more than enough goals from his team in CL most seasons but defensive brain farts cost them. So it was not based on him not having a no9 as he had Lewa at Bayern and still faced same defensive issues at time more so than scoring goals.

Liverpool had Firmino there who has height and is good in air. He would drop deep and let Mane/Salah get in behind when had space but when teams sat in he was a focal point in the box.

They also then went for a CF in Nunez after him.

There is no one way but the fact Klopp and Pep are opting for big, physical CFs tells its own story about how important they are if can get them.

Wouldn't consider firmino tall or a Cf really. I'm talking about main goalscorers anyway
