Xavi Hernández

There’s no harm in his failure ultimately, we’re all disappointed but none more than the legend himself

Success is not guaranteed at anything and there was plenty in his locker to be an ideal coach at Barça and eventually he may return to it, even if elsewhere

Success as a coach also requires a certain personality I believe and perhaps Xavi was too sweet for this sort of job at the club of his life

Even Pep couldn’t last more than 4 seasons, Lucho 3 and in the end 2 1/2 for Xavi

Good post. Maybe out of the depth is a bit harsh as you say. But his implosion at the end of the season kind of suggested that, and that in this tenure he had definitely reached the end point.

Well, we can see Flick's start with the injury crisis and if we had put year4 Xavi in that spot things would probably be looking very ugly, and a whole lot of media baggage.

As said in the Serghei post, if management see holes in the coaches setup and you refuse to improve personnel beneath you, Yet in an ironic twist, you are also telling the media that it will be hard to compete in the next season without personnel change in the players.

That's a complete lack of awareness to say the least.

And again, seeing Xavi flaws or limitations in this run as a manager takes nothing around his achievements or his club legend status. Charly Rexach was a club legend, famed for recruited Messi but was a flop as manager. Doesn't mean we can't point out that.

It insinuates a few things.

1) That if Flick beat this Bayern it is also because it is not the same Bayern as when we played them the last few years (with Xavi).
2) That if Flick wins, then even Xavi could beat this Bayern.

This is what I meant by the Xavi PR.

Bayern last season finished 3rd in Germany instead of winning the league as they usually do. If that is not a sign they are not as strong as before...

Situation today is not the same as 2-3 years ago. Even though in Germany we should have beaten them 2 years ago also. Stonewall pen on Dembele at 0-0, and 2 sitters misssed by Lewa and Pedri.

Flick is still gonna get credit if he beats Bayern lol. Don't you worry about that. They are still a top team. I don't see the big fuss in pointing at clear things, such as the fact that we are now better than 2 years ago when we faced them last time, and they are in decline.

We also don't have Stegen, that ups our chances at least 10-15% on its own in CL.

Yep, when he declined Barca&Spain declined too⚽️
Spain definitely.

I think the thing with Barca is they were so so good during Xavi's prime (the best team ever for me) that it would have been impossible to sustain that even if Xavi was 5 years younger. They still had Messi, Neymar, Suarez joined as Xavi aged, Iniesta was still about mostly etc. They still won a lot of stuff.

Obviously international teams have far fewer opportunities to win trophies (and play at all), but I would say Spain felt Xavi's absence more than Barca did (though Barca still felt it). Guardiola leaving was another reason for Barca coming down from 'greatest team ever' to 'brilliant world-class, probably best team in the world'.

Yep tru Spain felt it more, Barca also in 12/13 and 13/14 but Barca could replace the strenght they lost in midfield with more power in offense in 14/15 with NeyNey( ,needed 1 season to adapt) and Suarez

Ok,
and after Hansi's last presser we found out it was HIM who invited Xavi and not the other way round.

Interesting to know, since the usual apologists here and elsewhere (usual Catalan/Barca DNA/'Respect the legends' parrots/idiots) tried to push the line "Xavi loves Barca so much that he went to see Flick" and all that crap...

And, mind you, they will use this line in a few years from now, when Xavi will be begging again for the Barca bench, after being unemployed for years (since in his mind, he is too good to lean coaching elsewhere)

I believe he’s probably too emotionally invested in the club, pressure of club over time is corrosive

Resignation, walking it back only to get fired within a short period of time is consistent with that

That’s no knock on him since both Lucho & Pep who I rate as ideal characters for a job like Barça burnt out as well - it’s inevitable

He was definitely too emotionally invested, he was getting booked almost on a weekly basis on the side lines.

I think Xavi will have learnt an enormous amount from his Barca stint and with the experience he's got from this and less emotional ties to the next club, he will have himself a very good job when he's ready.

You're welcome
I think Xavi will have learned a lot of things at Barca. Give him some time to reflect. Prolly do better at next club.
