From the top of my head:
Xavi assisted the match winne against germany in the EURO final and villas goal against portugal in the WC.

He also made this when it was 1-1

But that doesn't really count as a assist..

Last season against inter he assisted piques goal, although we still lost the semi.Last season el clasico in the bernabeu he assisted both goals.

And he assist in the CL final that sealed the game.

For a CM xavi has done countless of assist when we needed to win.

Kinda says how little people that vote actually know about the players, most that voted probably voted on Messi becouse hes the most "famous" outside La Liga.
And Iniesta made the final goal in WC so the people that dont watch La Liga voted for Iniesta as second. People only notice the goalscorers, how many times has a defender won the price?

Personally woulda gone with 1.Xavi, 2.Messi, 3.Iniesta
