Xavi is still supremely talented but two areas of his game have declined. His willingness to try through balls which i think is psychological. A combination of not trusting the defense or even his own defensive abilities and becoming too obsessed with the idea of possession for possessions sake. The other is his ability to defend which was never amazing but he always put in work. Now he seems to just lack the physical ability to keep up with youngsters who are faster and stronger. Iniesta isn't a very good defender either so we get left with Busquets trying to do all the work and then our two cbs while our fullbacks are all the way up the pitch and it's no wonder our defense has been poor.

Fortunately for Spain, they have a much more defensively stable team with the double pivot and better back four so Xavi doesn't get exposed on counters.

Because Messi was replaced by Fabregas, a world class striker....

I agree that Xavi has declined a fair bit, but I think he would show a lot more if he went to a team with an actual forward.

Cesc also played as a false 9 for Spain and according to him that didn't stopped Xavi from playing like his old self with the NT, so I don't see why it would have any effect when they were playing for Barca.

Oh bloody heck, those were the days. So so beautiful.

Imagine being an opposition player, facing a team that can pass like that... I'd just give up. lol
No wonder you are a Gooner, same weak mentality as you team :troll: (don't be offended I'm just kidding around)

I would happily transport Xavi's brain into Sergi Roberto's body.

can we do that, actually?

Xavi's brain is still as good as ever, but his body has betrayed him, the cunt.

how ironic that Qatar may save us from enduring him becoming a Catalan Raul tho.

We can if Lucho convinces Xavi to become Sergi's personal tutor.

Just read it that in an interview with TV Arabic (?), Xavi conceded that both Messi's and our game have deteriorated in the last season.

Glad that he is speaking the truth. Facing it head-on will help us address it and get better.

really? that's quite unusual, i don't think i've ever heard a barca player saying anything negativ about messi. But i agree, a good thing if true. leave it to xavi to drop the truth bombs!

Someone had to say it. But Messi admitted he played poorly first.

I think he meant that the tactics didn't benefit Messi much last season and therefore Messi wasn't as great as in the previous seasons. Which would make sense, because if he's going to put the blame on a player, it should be himself.
