Xavi is close to 3-year deal with New York City FC. Barcelona and Xavi want deal done before Thursday, when he should join training. [sport]

New York will be good for Xavi. He'll have company with Villa and Lampard there, plus he can make some good money in his last few years.

Excited to be able to see them on TV.

Both Barcelona and Xavi want a deal on his transfer before Thursday. If not, Xavi will join the first team in training that day. [md]

I'm disappointed in Xavi to be honest. Just shows all this talk about retiring at Barca is nonsense, just because he now may face less playing time with Barca he wants to throw his toys out of his pram. Xavi needs to realise he's 34 and not 24 anymore and at least stay and be a motivator for players like Rakitic, Roberto etc.

Xavi hasn't said anything yet. Am I missing something?

Either way if he stays I be happy, he wants to leave then I lose some respect.

Him wanting to leave could also be because he doesn't feel he's got it in him to lead Barcelona back to the top of the world.
Anyhow, Whatever happens, I'll have every ounce of respect for him as I've always had.

Then going to NY not going to make a difference? Xavi should stay at Barça and be an influence to the next generation of players. We lost Thiago, Cesc and we now will be losing Xavi. That's a big VOID. Xavi going to NY is because he's guaranteed to be a starter.

He'd be a guaranteed starter at a multitude of ChL clubs too. IMO he's going for one last adventure before his career is over. He'll be back to help the club in a couple of years.

If the rumours are true (that NYC only wants to pay him half the salary he's earning at Barca now, and that Barca would pay him the remaining half of his salary for the upcoming 2 years), that would rub me the wrong way though.

Xavi decides to break his contract himself, so Barca shouldn't be punished for that. We should get a transfer-fee for him, not the other way around.

Thankfully I've not heard that rumor before. That does indeed sound extremely unreasonable.
