If the rumours are true (that NYC only wants to pay him half the salary he's earning at Barca now, and that Barca would pay him the remaining half of his salary for the upcoming 2 years), that would rub me the wrong way though.

Xavi decides to break his contract himself, so Barca shouldn't be punished for that. We should get a transfer-fee for him, not the other way around.

Xavi Quote “For me, Barca is unconditional. Let’s just say that I’m playing at Arsenal, at Manchester, at Bayern Munich. I’d constantly be asking myself, ‘What’s happening at Barca? I love this club, I love it. I always say that I will never leave Barca until my career ends. I won’t go. I won’t go. I’m happy at Barca. Barca, I love it, I feel like it’s mine. For me it’s unconditional. No loans, no offers.”

Is that a recent quote? Great news if it is. If the maestro can settle for a smaller role, he will still be a big asset to the team.

PaCmAn, not disagreeing with you at all. Xavi is the type of guy that doesn't take crap from anyone. He absolutely loves being in control.

On the other hand, he may be seriously looking for another high time in his life. I don't know why so many retiring stars are attracted to MLS, but if that's what he wants to do, then the club should grant his wish. I just hope it's not because he wants more playing time. That would be really arrogant from him.

If he signs for NYFC he will only play there in March 2015. Would we want to keep him until January that would be weird but I can see it happening.

Would you really call it arrogance though? If he stays at barca, he will go into the next season as a 34 old to play under a coach who's all about shaking things up and bringing back hunger and dynamic. He'll play far less then last season and in addition he's retired from the national team as well. If he still thinks he has one or two seasons in him in a less intense environement than barca, it's logical he would go for that instead of being a bench relic at barca whose job is to tell the youngsters stories from the glory days.
we aren't talking about some guy from barca b who should be patient and "take one for the team" on the bench, we talk about the player with most caps and trophies in barca history.

Also the best Spanish player of all time and best Barca midfielder of all time, he can do whatever he wants. Nobody will care even if he scores a hattrick against Barca.

I'll wait to hear what he has to say. But he can do whatever he wants, anyway. He earned that right for everything he's done for Barça.

Well you guys do know mls for him won't start for next summer if he signs now. He could still loan and have his last season with Barca.

If he goes, do we need another mid?

We needed one like Kroos but we let him join Madrid instead. I do not fully trust Rakitic or Rafinha to fill the void Xavi leaves behind. Unless Lucho is thinking of playing Mascherano in DM and moving Busquest further I'll find it odd if the club doesn't sign another midfielder.
