Xavi was our starting 11 player, but broke his knee ligaments in December 2005 and thus he missed the rest of the Season.
He played in 4 CL matches before that.
Young Iniesta, partly due to Xavi's absence, collected 11 appearances because we had only Deco, Van Bommel and him as Mcs after Xavi's injury.
Young Messi emerged that Season, collected 6 CL appearances, took the starting 11 position from Guily, and injured his muscle in QF or SF at Nou Camp (and missed the final).
-- for comparison, Mathieu has 5 CL appearances this Season
= that would imply that he is not a key player or that he didn't do too much, but he is our squad player and a 3rd choice Cb
You don't have to do anything to have the medal. Besides, "Not doing much" is still contributing.

I thought that it was quarter or semis against Milan (I remember that Messi was injured at Nou Camp, and that he cried after that and Rijkaard was hugging him after the injury).
It was in the return leg against Chelsea at Nou Camp 2005-06 (2:1 for us at Stamford Bridge and 1:1 at Nou Camp), I found the article, lol:

Young Messi missed all matches till the end of the Season after that (including CL final against Arsenal, this is why Guily played)

I thought Lucho was crazy to sub of Xavi, Xavi was bossing the game, should have been iniesta for Rafinha and Pedro for Suarez.
I'm really going to miss Xavi at Barca, Xavi=Barca for me. That one run he had towards the end at the lb/lm position followed by a quality pass was vintage Xavi.

Really? I (and many many others in chat) thought he looked lethargic and anonymous until that beautiful nutmeg. Really can see a difference between Barca with Rakitic/Iniesta, and Xavi/Rafinha. Not nearly enough aggression and sharpness for us to be comfortable in games like these...The reason why Rakitic is on stands is because his 11km of running is extremely high intensity, while Xavi is jogging around ala Pirlo.
Credit where credit is duo, he is and always will be Barca legend, he was also extremely valuable this year coming from the bench. But starting in games like this one shows why he simply cant play in high stake/intensity games.

Erm, no. Xavi was a starting player but had a serious inury. Messi played 6 games and got injured in March. Very much important players.
