Wonderful news. I doubt he'll decline much towards the end either. His legs will probably get heavier, but as long as he keeps on top of his fitness he'll still be a key member of the team at 34. He's going to absolutely piss all over the all-time appearances record.

In 6 years he will be 36. Playmakers typically have value until their mid 30's, 36 might be pushing it but while Xavi may lose mobility, his passing skill isn't going to magically disappear. Zidane played at a high level until he retired at 34.

I'd like to see him retire as the most capped Barcelona player and the most capped Spanish non-keeper.

2016 is .... a bit too long at this point.

Truth be told they didn't really extend his contract. His current contract ran until 2014, and as GJ said, they made this one conditional. So what he's signed up to is that if he plays 50% of matches in 2014, he will have a year extension, and if in that year extension he plays 50% of games, he will have a final year extension until 2016.
Pretty rational imo.

I hope the Maestro will never retire. It won't be right. What are we going to do without our dear Xavi? :(
