Yaya Toure

a few days ago my friend asked me what I thought about Last Samurai. I said it was a great movie, despite Tom Cruise. The same thing applies here. We are a great team despite Busquets. Oleguer was our starting RB on a team that won the double in 2006, does that make him a great RB? NO!! So we went out dropped coin on Dani Alves. Time and time again Busquets made dumb f**king mistakes. His performance in the 2009 CL Final showed promise, and this season he was nothing short of awful. And yes, Toure Yaya was the best player on a bad team in 2008 because he was the only one who gave a flying f**k. If the club was going to sell Toure and get an upgrade at his position, I have no problem w/ the move. But Busquets is not a freaking upgrade, as Dani was to Oleguer. He's not even a lateral move. This is like a CEO quitting his/her job to go flip burgers at McDonalds. I said in 2007 that the best move we made during the summer was not Thierry but Yaya freakin Toure. Three years later I was spot on. But this. This is a bad move.

While I personally consider Yaya a better player than Biscuits a comparison to Oleguer isn't really fair (and Meta is going to be trying to murder you, I'd sleep with one eye open). Biscuits adds and subtracts; he knows the system very well and is able to contribute on both ends to it, and he adds a level of cynicism we have been lacking since Deco stopped being relevant. He also still makes stupid mistakes frequently, and as much as people defend him for his age, he's had two seasons of regular football with the first team and still gets a free pass, it's a bit worrying. Just look at his performance with Spain yesterday, he did much more good than bad but the bad he did was always very dangerous. He's kind of the Rafael Marquez of central midfielders actually.

As far as Yaya goes, I wanted Yaya before we got him, he was an absolute steal and one of my favourite players. But his relationship with the club is irreversibly damaged. Blame him, blame his agent, blame Pep, like all messy divorces everyone has some fault. But while losing him is a step back, we need to move on.

Finally a Cule that see's and speaks the truth about Busquets and what a severely limited player he is. Busquets isn't half the player Toure is, nowhere near the same physical presence, none of the attacking input of Toure, and certainly no more consistent with a need to make stupid fouls all the time. If he is the only replacement of Yaya, Barca are taking a significant step backwards in the competitiveness of their squad in my view. Really should have learned from the weaknesses shown against Inter, not make them more acute.
Yeah but he's a Catalan youth product and is therefore the next Guardiola with better defense! Seriously though, Biscuits is a very well rounded player but he has obvious flaws.

Perhaps finances had a say in it. If we're going for Torres & Fab then we're looking at a 150m bill. You sell Toure & Ibra and already you have a much more manageable 80-90m tab to deal with.
There's also the dearth of replacements to consider. No one would blink an eye if we had Essien or De Rossi lining up as replacements; but are they available? There may be Mascherano but I don't think he will for much longer.

Fingers crossed we can have this thread swiftly moved into the history section so the Yayaistas can swap notes with the R10 fanboys and leave the rest of us in peace :p
