Do we give a shit knowing that this player is arguably one of the two/three best midfielders in Europe of the last seasons and that he's probably one of the few who can (I wouldn't say replace but) take Xavi's role in our team ?

Yes, I thought we were done with spending money like drunkards. Guess not, even with PSG, Monaco and other oil doped clubs, we still want to smash record transfer fees for players with their best years behind them? Not even oil doped clubs do that, and we dont have that luxury.

I dread if we go all insane and buy this guy for 30m and sign him up on a 15m a year 3 year contract and he starts to decline rapidly in his first season as is likely for a 31 year old with one of the weakest stamina and work rates in football. Especially since we risk being banned from transfers next season, which makes it even worse.

Signing Yaya could even be the downfall of our whole club. He will probably start to decline next season. We are stuck with a new Winston Bogarde, getting huge wage and unable to sell him. So there is no money to reinforce other urgent areas of the squad even as we do a mediocre season with declining Yaya and Xavi. so we are basically stuck. Doing worse but unable to reinforce because of horrible transfers and spending, and then getting less income as we decline further, meaning even less money to reinforce. A vicious cycle. And then the transfer ban kicks in, meaning we are even more restrained. Signing 31 year olds on huge money should strictly be the territory of oil doped clubs.

It would be stupid to pay a lot for him but something like 15M would be a fantastic deal. He still has 2 great seasons left in him, I think.

Even more important than transfer fee (although 12m should be tops of what we would pay in fee) is his wages. They are sky high, and he would have to take a 50% wage cut if we even should consider him. Signing this 31 year old on a 45m, 3-year contract and 15m transfer fee, would be the ultimate madness not seen since "Eto+50m for Ibra" in world football.

Why do we care what he gets paid, though? I know I don't pay his wages so it doesn't affect me. I just want to see the team win titles and that's what matters.

Because we wont be able to reinforce our team when we piss away 100m extra euros on increased wages for oldies, and a bad season means we are stuck with a massively overpaid and underperforming squad, unable to reinforce and improve. The rest of our squad wont sit quietly and see a newcomer get paid twice what they are paid, so the whole squad will demand wage hikes.

Because we didn't already do that with Neymar, huh? Yaya already said he'd be willing to take a paycut so it's not that big of a deal.
