Well, they did learn alot from that deal, about the types of players, the types of characters to bring into Barcelona. I'd almost say it was worth it with the lessons they learned.

As shown by the great deal we got with Alexis.
The fact that our scouts were present during the one game where he looked like Barca material (scoring 4 of the 11 goals he would go on to score that season) had nothing to do with it.
We needed a winger who could slot in and had great passing ability and could take on his man while providing an alternative to the messi goal fiesta. Insead we got Alexis.

But the Ibra-deal already came out of a lesson; Eto was a character problem, not a performance problem.

But yes, Ibra was a much worse character fit. Not only that he was so different from the rest of the players, the fact that he took the spotlight was probably not a good fit either. First he was signed in that huge deal, and it was all about Ibra.

When he scored it was Ibra here, Ibra there. It has been mentioned before; he generated enough hype to be voted the best player in the squad after the autumn. While he did a good enough job, and great for a first half season, he was not on his best yet, or even close.

And then in the spring he didnt score at all and it was Ibra here, Ibra there, for opposite reasons.

And then he left and it was... Ibra here, Ibra there.

When he scored against Arsenal in CL, it was completely blown out of proportions.
When Barcelona lost against Inter, no one even noticed that the best player in the world had been useless.

That kind of hype for one player is ok, even good, for some clubs. But definatly not for Barcelona (atleast not what the current generation is going for).

Huh? Are you even serious? Seems that you aren't or at least that's what it looks like to me. Alexis was actually scouted for a full year by the technical staff before they came to a conclusion.

We needed someone who was able to take on his man and we got Alexis instead? Do you know that Alexis had the second most successful dribbles after Eto'o that season? No, I'm sure you don't.

Yes, this is the only positiv thing.

Maybe we are the best team ever, the discussion is open, but for sure me made the worst deal ever in the football history
(and Inter the best deal ever): Ibra for 45mio + Eto'o
I dont know a single inter fan who wasnt enthusiastic about the deal, no one understood why we have been so stupid.

Lots of deals have been worse, Kaka to Real Madrid just to name one. He's cost them a lot more over the years and contributed less than Zlatan did his one season in Barca.
Yes, but the thing about this Ibra-deal is not only that he was bought expensive (there are a lot more examples of those deals), but that he was soon sold way, way under market value as well.

So the deal is crazy in both directions.

It took a few months before Zlatanmania hit France but here... it finally arrived.

Worst thing about Ibra is the feeling that has been there for years: what am I going to watch when he finally quits?

He has redefined my view of what entertaining fotball looks like. :(
