He's distinctly average and a bit of a bottler in Europe. Great for the LL.


Totally lacks the presence of a World Class GK. Zero intimidation factor and control in the box.


Compare his presence to actual World Class GKs like Alisson, Courtois, Oblak and the difference is clear.


His stans were complaining about Neuer starting over him all the time. Duh, Neuer's presence on his worst day is twice as big as MATS!

I believe we are past the hate takes in here and most are actually brain-dead so can't make a proper evaluation of Stegen's performances.

It was exactly as you described it - unsavable first goal and maybe could have been quicker to get to ground on second, but otherwise he wasn't terrible.

First goal went through him. Far from unsaveable. Second goal can't moan too much about it, was a good action and a quick shot by Vitinha.

Thing is he concedes almost any good shot on target. It's been like that for many many years. He's an average shot stopper. Even Valdes who was far from elite was better than him.

It is what it is though. Hopefully there will come a time when Barca will have a standout keeper being a difference maker in CL. Half of Madrid's CL titles are tied to great keeper performances in clutch moments.

I think if Dembele didn't basically slide while hitting the shot he could have saved it, that slide put the ball higher than it naturally would have gone.
