Why am I having a bad feeling that apart from his performance he will have to go through a lot to ensure a starter spot consistently.

Lucho seems to be a guy who picks based on merit/form and not other factors like seniority. And he should be a lot more trusting of young players than Tito and Tata were. If Mats outperforms the others, he'll be a starter.

Or not. MAtS has it all to impress and take the spot.

I hope so. I just hope that the GK gets a good run of games and that they aren't constantly rotated.

I think Lucho was being diplomatic, but if not, and that he really prefers Masip to start, then I wonder what's the point of having 3 competitive goal keepers.

+1

Also I'm pretty sure that MatS would not have joined if they really told him he only had a 33,33% chance to be their #1. If he really was deceived...

If both Bravo and Stegen rise up to the task, we shall play both. We should consider ourselves lucky that we now have two GKs that are both well capable of saving the team in tough situation.

A season has 50-60 games depending on how you do in cup competitions. That is a lot of games. We should be able to keep two good GKs happy in those circumstances.

I think that's a bit of a simplistic POV. In the end, both will want to play the big games. What happens in the knock-out stages of the CL, keep rotating? Bad idea. The keeper that's going to be benched against European top clubs, Real & Atlético is going to be annoyed even if he played a lot of games in total.

I don't think that will happen if we manage them right. They could even split the big games, if both of them have great performances. Both Lopez and Casillas played big games last season for example. Sure, the situation is delicate, but both should be men and accept the decision of the coach. Form will play a decisive factor IMO.

That's not good for gk's. They need continuity. Splitting minutes is a bad idea. There needs to be a clear starter.
