Facts has shown otherwise. If Courtois is not that special and i don't know if you're seriously talking or joking then the same could be said for ter Stegen. In what actually he hasn't been anything special, having constantly good seasons with Atletico and how consistent he has been or should we forget like the saves he had in the cup final for example. Courtois is better than ter Stegen that is a fact, doesn't mean that ter Stegen is bad but even leaving out what he generally did he's also been to Spain for long enough to fit to our team. Most people would want Courtois but of course because it's hard to happen we're going to ter Stegen. Not that it's a move of desperation but if you had to choose most people has chosen Courtois.

I don't care that Courtois is part of a successful team. He's not the reason for Atletico's defensive record. Atletico Madrid concede less shots than Barcelona and Real Madrid. Courtois had to make 30 % less saves than Valdes this season and Valdes has been out for 6 weeks. Mönchengladbach concede almost twice as many shots as Atletico. That is a fact. Except that Copa final where he indeed played out of his skin, Courtois is prone to conceding some dodgy long rangers, especially from C. Ronaldo in recent times. Quite often he has shaky moments and shows nerves like the last derby where he dropped the ball infront of Bale, almost messed up and had to feign injury to salvage the situation. He also isn't a good "footballer". He will hoof it and instead of sweeping up, he'll stay on his line like a classic goalkeeper. Certainly not optimal for Barcelona football. Will he become a world class goalkeeper? Most certainly. Is he a once in a generation talent that we must get. No. MAtS can easily become the greater goalkeeper.

He's improved a lot in saving long range shots, but I generally agree with what you say. Courtois is great and can become among the best in the world, but I can guarantee that ter Stegen has at least the same and probably even more potential.

It seems like we are going to get him, but nothing offical yet. I am 90% sure that he will play for Barca next season.

Valdes is not in anyway a liability. He has been the best Spanish goakeeper for the last couple of seasons. Del Bosque has only been starting Casillas lately due to loyalty but theres a big chance that Valdes will take his spot in the World Cup if Casillas continues to rot on the bench for Madrid. He was our best player this season until he got injured. There's no chance we would have won the trophies we have in recent years if Valdes actually was a liability. He basically won us the Champions League final against Arsenal by keeping Henry from scoring on so many occasions and back then he was half the goalkeeper he is now.
