Xavi: "ter Stegen? I say to him: be courageous, you should take risks, this is how Barça plays football." [as]

Positive comments are natural, especially the ones for media attention, they are also irrelevant.

I am genuinely worried, the sense of insecurity is always there with him, he makes an impossible save (that Cavani shot PSG away last UCL comes to mind), he gets nutmegged by a weak Torres effort against Atletico (UCL, Camp Nou last season), he makes great work of sweeping and beating opponent pressing, he slips and costs us 2 goals vs. Celta....

I get that with GKs it's a hot and cold situation, but his colds are bulking up and it's not that fun anymore.

He had my support and still does, but he needs to step up a bit, especially with the shot stopping part of his game.

Awful mistake from him. Can't help but think that we could've easily been at the top right now if not for those mistakes. Hopefully, he'll make up for it.

Mats did everything he could to become N°1 this summer, that shows how confident he is about himself. It's ok, but don't fuck up, because if you do fuck up like he did just after the pressure he put on FC Barcelona then he deserves all the heat. The team was coming back from hell and he fucked us up because of his over confidence. He is still young for a goalkeeper, he can have a bright future if he stops being too confident about his skills.

Well Lucho and other Barca players could bash him easily and the outcome would be you lose your goalkeeper's confidence and it might become worse than losing 1,2,3 points or give him another chance to prove himself so maybe he could get back on form again and you win.
And i'd rather the latter.

He needs to lose some of his confidence. He doesn't come off as a goalkeeper who is just confident, he comes of as a goalkeeper who is so egotistical that he has his head in the clouds.

If he wasn't so confident he wouldn't be daydreaming with the ball like he did. He would have been more alert and more aware of and played with more urgency.

He's too comfortable, someone should light a fire under his clueless ass.

I didn't mean confidence the way it sounds, like 'i know what im doing that's the best so im right' but losing your trust in your manager and other teammates when you know if you make a mistake either because of high confidence or something else you'll get bashed afterwards no matter what reason was behind that therefore, he would be sacred a bit whenever receives the ball to not make any mistake.

Btw he surely knows he shouldn't keep doing this if sometimes the situation become so risky and i hope he learns from these games.

Needs to revise his risk/reward formula a bit, this is becoming a common occurrence. When he gets it right only the upside will remain.

Maybe he was affraid to pass it to the centre due to that mistake from Busquets that led to first goal.

Mistake from Busquests? Ter Stegen gave a shitty pass to Busquets that in the end led to our first conceded goal...

Barçapocalypse NOW!
Lucho should learn something from Mourinho and throw his players under the bus when they made mistakes.

What? How well has that turned out for Mourinho? I'm pretty sure ter Stegen already heard it from coaching staff, and probably from the captain players; but to make it public would be a huge mistake, especially in Mourinho-esque fashion...

Changing subject, I don't get the risk/reward thing... There was absolutely no reward in the pass he attempted, it's not like it would have resulted in the equalizer or something, it was a poor judgement call that he makes way too often; His passes should always be the simplest ones, he's expected to start the attacking movement and that only carries significant rewards in rare occasions, so most of the time risks are not worth taking, just pass to the open player or kick the ball as far as possible, it's really not that complicated... That's not to say he shouldn't be involved in build-up, just that his task is really not hard to accomplish for him if he keeps his focus, he has the ability to do it...

Or at least, can someone point me to a play where we reaped the benefits of an overtly risky pass from our GK, because I surely can't recall one...

EDIT: I'm talking about the fourth goal, in the first goal I think the idea of passing to Busquets was the correct one, it was just poorly executed...
