Haha, didn't open the forum since the game, wanted to see all the drama and "season over/sell" stuff, which is quite impressive this time...

It was a game we treated lightly, players were off, some have been off for some time now but have some faith, it's only fucking November, in a group that we beat the only challenger 4-0, with one of the hardest away games in la Liga coming up...

That free kick was well struck, had a very good and fast dip over the wall, hard to see and to react. It happens, not in the "100% should have been saved" category, by far. Check the replays, he struck it really really well.

Same for Bob, or Sergio being exposed and attacked in the first seconds he got the ball...Xavi or Iniesta, or even Sergio read this pressing well and always provided an easy option for the pressed player, sometimes even before that player received the ball... we didn't have that... even when Bob made the mistake, Umtiti or Masche or someone from the mid, should have provided a fast option...

Bottom line, irrelevant game, should have had it at half time, unlucky move on.

The thing is that this is not a one game thing... Ter Stegen and the rest of the team have been poor or mediocre all season long...

We were winning trophies under Cruijff with Zubi, with Van Gaal and Hesp, with Rijkaard and Valders, with Pep and Valdes, with Lucho and Bravo.
We won 10+ La ligas and 5 CLs in the last 20 years with "normal" GKs who were meh to ok with feet.
And we were still the best team in the world and in Spain.

I don't even remember how this forum created an obsession that a crucial thing for a Barca's GK is his passing skills.
Gk is supposed to save shots.
His passing skills are a bonus.

If we can get a GK with both skills, awesome.
But, a world class Gk with average passing skills is always > a good, but not world class Gk with an awesome passing skills.

I guess you didn't log to many forums during VV days and missed the whole "Valdes is better for Barca than Buffon because of his passing" days.
Zubi btw always spoke proudly about how Cruijff told him to play well with his leg and attacks starts with him.
I don't like this discussion either but the club actually won 5CL titles with GK who were all known for passing someway or another.
We are taking it to a new level with MATS b/c his passing skills is probably the best, and actually I think he is on same level as Valdes as a GK.
That said I will gladly trade him with DDG. just can't see it happening without major financial loss.

I can't understand what happened to his goalkeeping skills, he had cat-like reflexes at Borussia M. When he joined Barca, they disappeared, he looks too slow in the goal and not agile at all.

He looks slower than his first season here too.

Something is definitely wrong.

Burning 40m on DDG would be tempting if he doesn't turn it around. Surely the team is not playing well overall, but talking solely about his goalkeeping skills, something is wrong. He's flatfooted and slow to react.

Hope we'd burn the same money on Oblak somehow (though I surely wouldn't mind DDG either)...Ok ok, coming to think of it, De Gea sounds a damn sight better, much better with penalties as well ;)

If the keeper can't see the ball when a free kick is being lined up, it seems like he should move somewhere where he can see. You're better off starting in an imperfect spot, seeing the ball, than being anywhere you can't see the ball.

Ter Stegen does lots of good things, he is good with his feet, but his consistency is deficient for being the starter for a team like Barca.
