Positioning yourself on the opposite side of your wall is horrible positioning?

Some of you people should really go and actually play football once or twice.

He Olaf'd in the freekick, Draxler scored shooting at the middle of the goal (some doubt here will check the replay), and Cavani scored in his first post... All three glaring GK mistakes...

You're a funny guy.

Thanks... I did say he had a good game and made crucial saves, but that doesn't take away that he could have done better in three of their goals... That third one was just nasty and there's was nothing he could do...

I'm not blaming him for the defeat at all, all things considered he was our best performer along with Neymar...

The freekick went through his wall because Suarez ducked. You do know walls are implemented for a reason, right? Imagine, for a moment, that we didn't have a wall there. How the actual fuck would Mats be expected to save it then? Once again, go outside and kick a ball around.

Draxler scored far post, not the middle of the goal. That's nearly impossible to save as you have no idea where the striker is going to shoot. As a defender your top priority should be to at least pressure the attacker to make it easier on your keeper. Maybe if you went outside and... you know, kicked a ball around, you'd know that.

Cavani scored near post but, once again, he was allowed free reign to essentially fire a bullet. If Mats is hugging his post slotting it past his other side with just as much power is actually easier than scoring the goal that went in. I'll give you a pass on not playing football on that one though, that's something you pick up specifically playing defense/keeper.

Still, who positions the wall? The GK does. Who has to react if the ball goes past it? The GK has to. And he Olaf'd in that one.

I'll give you second as I admit I didn't see it very well, and the replay in my broadcast didn't give a good angle.

And where did I say he should hug his post? All I said is he was badly positioned and could have done better...

No need to get all pissy about it, though, I'm NOT blaming his beautiful blonde locks for the defeat at all, just that I think there are some things he should improve to be considered our GK for the future...

The wall wasn't the problem, Suarez ducking was. A ball that low has to hit the wall.

I wonder what goes on in Suarez' mind sometimes lol

First running from the post on a corner in that Betis game giving them the best chance to score a goal and now this.

What the are you even talking about? Are you so blind in your hate that you can't comprehend the real issue in that goal? Suarez ducked and the ball went right where he should have been. How is that IN ANY WAY Mats' fault? Tell me. Tell me PLEASE. And don't give me that Olaf BS, the ball went SPECIFICALLY where the ball should NOT go. You know, that's the entire fucking point of a wall.

Congratulations, you blamed MAts for conceding a goal when you couldn't even tell what happened. Bravo.

How could he have positioned himself better, then? Maybe moving farther away from his near post? I really hope that's not what you're saying, because at least saying he should have been closer would make a small amount of sense.

He already is our GK of the future and he was easily our best man out there. It's not his fault his defense is so shitty and he's the only reason we didn't suffer our worst loss in CL history (We actually tied the Bayern loss which was our worst). All of your critiques, and I mean every single one, are either idiotic, uninformed, or just plain arbitrary.

Cool your jets, man... I already said he was the best player out there next to Neymar, and also said that he had a very good game... I even prefaced my criticism with that in two different posts...

I don't blame him for any of the goals, my opinion is he could have done better even if difficult/impossible to save, mainly because those "errors" have costed us in the past and he keeps repeating them, so if he doesn't fix them they will cost us in the future again, so that's why I don't trust him to be a GK to build on... Other players like Suárez and whoever was supposed to defend yesterday, are the reason why we conceded 4 goals, I'm not disputing that because he was left to die on his own; and I'm not even saying ter Stegen should have saved us because not even a brick wall could have done it, so I apologize if it came out that way...

This bolded part invalidates literally everything you're saying. Seriously, what is wrong with you? He made no errors that costed us, not a single one. I have gone in depth exactly why he didn't, detailing what happened in every goal. If we concede five goals across five games because players in our wall keep dodging the ball how the hell is it an error *Mats* keeps repeating?

God damn, you're more upsetting than Mandrake was.

Maybe he'll dramatically change under new management but I really don't like Ter Stegen after months of watching him.

Cillessen is a better goalkeeper FOR US than he is IMO. Marc takes it too far with the whole 'build from the back' stuff.

I just feel so anxious when he plays for us.
