Why do you think the second won't happen? He, along with Courtois, is one of the world's best young keepers.

Because i dont think is gonna be the best keeper in the world. I hope he proves me wrong. Top 5 would be great.
That being said i think it´s a wonderfull deal. I only hope his parents dont get 55M. If so it´s not a amazing deal. lol

Though it's hard to predict anything in football, who is your pick to be the future best keeper in the world? Perin, Courtois, Leno?

Too hard to predict because keepers have a long career. Buffon is still around after all these years :)

Neuer is only 27. He has 10 more years. Remember Van der Sar.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Borussia Monchengladbach): "I'll join Barcelona in the summer? No comment."

I guess the good news is he did not deny it.

I'll be honest, his long ball distribution was poor on the night (64% PA acc. whoscored). And when you consider the fact that his MF was unable to retain the ball, it was really annoying he continually chose to go long, even when he could 've played it to his defense. His long range stats is amongst the best in Europe, so I was expecting better.
Having said that, he made some critical saves, handled the ball well. Acc. to whoscored, he was the player with the most touches, and the highest rated for his team, and 4th best on the pitch. :)

I think those stats are a bit misleading tbh...Both in terms of the opposition and the circumstances on the night...I can recall one pass out of the back where the Borussia player slipped and it was intercepted by Lahm but in general the idea was to move the ball up the pitch and you're going to connect less passes that way...I liked how confident on the ball he looked and his ability to play it with either foot, one time very early in the match giving his team a scoring chance that the striker failed to convert

Truth is, I started watching Borussia more than a year ago once he was linked to Barcelona but I honestly got tired of watching them as they were incredibly poor & boring, in general...They used to be fairly defensive and praying for the occasional counter...Clearly that has improved for them not only in terms of where they are in the table but their ability to build attacks from the middle of the pitch...They still seem to lack quality forwards but much easier to watch them now

Ter Stegen is a great keeper, already...I'm very happy he's going to be here and look forward to his development, which obviously will be needed to play keeper for this team...As others have previously pointed out, patience will be needed due to his age and inexperience outside his own bubble but this is a quality player & person...Zubi deserves credit, IMO, as his ceiling is incredibly high

Well, you choose a pretty bad moment to start following the club given that we had to replace Reus that year and lacked a real offensive game as long as Arango didn't have a magical moment.

Um...Max Kruse(18 games with 8 goals and 7 assists) and Raffael(18 games with 9 goals and 4 assists) beg to differ...

We just don't play traditional forwards(that's why Luuk de Jong has no chance and will most likely be gone this winter) and Barca fans should know, that this is something that can work.

Anyways, MATS has been pretty good(as usual) against Bayern and I think one part of the reason(besides Valdez and his decision) why the transfer's still not official is Borussia wanting at least 15m for ter Stegen.
And it's also something that will be tough to play down, given that ter Stegen's been given the green light to transfer if A) he finds a top team that wants him and B) if said team is paying a certain amount of money.
And listening to Eberl's comments, 11 - 12 m aren't enough to meat both criterias.

Well, wasn't meant as a knock against the club since they looked good to me last night, save for Xhaka - which disappointed me for other reasons...But they were indeed painful to watch last season...I have done similar with Everton due to Deulofeu while they have clearly been entertaining from the start...In the end, however, I really liked the look of Borussia last night and I thought they gave a good account of themselves - just lacked some better finishing

Great fan support but what's the atmosphere like in the stadium? I didn't get the impression it had a similar vibe to Dortmund's ambiance, looked a bit more like an ultra brigade...Or am I reading it poorly?

No hard feelings. ;)
We played terrible football last season and needed some magical moments from Juan Arango(who was only able to deliver during the first half of the season) to create some chances/score some goals.
It was due to Reus leaving, while we also lost one of our central midfielders(Neustädter, went to Schalke) und Dante(Bayern), who's a very solid passer from the centre back position.

Xhaka had a bad game yesterday, but him and Kramer had a tough time given that Bayern plays with only half a striker while we played a traditional 4-4-2 and therefore they both were always undermanned in midfield.

BTW: We played alright yesterday, but started with way too much respect and gave away both goals, as the first one was pretty cheap and the second was "handed" to them.

Great fan support but what's the atmosphere like in the stadium? I didn't get the impression it had a similar vibe to Dortmund's ambiance, looked a bit more like an ultra brigade...Or am I reading it poorly?

Fan support is always great and we've got about 50.000 per game or more.
We also have a good showing on away games and blew peoples minds last year during Europa League play(we had the highes attendance for the games we played last year), when we had 10.000 fans traveling to Rome on a Thursday evening to support our team in that last 32 matchup with Lazio.

Though, you can't compare it to Dortmund, cause they've got over 80.000 people in their stadium and therefore more atmosphere.

Apart from the instance which you touched upon, where the striker failed to capitalise on his feed early on, his passing was ineffective and rushed for the most part, more often than not finding a red shirt, and that didn't help his team, one already devoid of the ball. In this aspect he was better against Wolfs. Like you said, it must be the nerves, and the occasion, and I'm sure he'll improve with more experience. A fair evaluation of a performance should list both the good and the bad. And I was going by that principle, as its also more helpful for the audience that missed the event.

I'm still sceptical about this deal materialising, especially if there is a change in presidency in the summer.

But I do think Mats fits the bill, and personally prefer him to Thibaut Yashin Courtois, whose every stop and claim (even the standard) is met with hyperbole, and anybody who says anything but complimentary about him has to face a backlash. No doubt i'll be next. :super2:
