This dilemma reminds me of De Gea's performances at United for a good stretch, when he had to constantly bail out the team out and he was praised by the United fans as their best player but they also said the same thing as we are now.
It's not really a good thing that Stegen is constantly our best performing player outside Messi. The plus side in all of this is Stegen is showing major improvement compared to previous seasons in some key areas and being called to action helps improve him and show off what his current level is.
The bad part like I said above is it's a bad thing we have to rely so much on him to bail our asses out. One would expect our Midfield and front like and even defenders to be constantly our best players every match but here we are Stegen along with Umtiti and Messi being our best players throughout this season.
