I said it before.. I really think the next Barcelona keeper will suffer. Hope I'm wrong. Took Valdés long enough before he started to become awesome and look at the keepers we had prior to him. Keeping at Barça is totally different than keeping in any other team.

That's when we fans should support the guy instead of writing him off. I hope he makes a smooth transition. He is young and will make mistakes. He will and absolutely will. Every keeper does, even the most experienced and the best ones. I just hope he is fully backed and that people don't call for his head right away.....

If his brainfarts with the German NT was any indication, yes he will make some mistakes, even some extremely silly ones. But he is young, he is coming to a new country, new league, new team and we Barca fans should support him wholeheartedly regardless of how his initial performance turns out.

Pass success and crosses claimed are what a Barca keeper needs to be best at since shot stopping is only 2 per game on average. Ter Stegen is our guy! Sign him already!!

That's the truth not only for Barca but for any big team.It happened with De Gea at ManU and that's what's probably going to happen if we sign any young unexperienced keeper who won't become the next Buffon or Cech in just a season.We should have bought Ter Stegen (or any young keeper) last summer and ease him into the first team rather throwing him to the lions day one.

VV wasn't highly rated for most football fans around the world for years and made tons of mistake and he was still supported by many barca fans and survived ,MATS isn't replacing Buffon or Casillas and if he had few bad games won't be a problem b/c fan still remember that VV had many bad games
I am not trying to underrate Valdes,he is still a club legend and he is g8 GK considering the other GKs we had ,but the bar isn't set too high tbh ,Valdes was never considered top 3 GKs in the world .
And Marc is known to be a high character guy ,he will survive once he is used to it ,Fans was patient with Valdes,I don't know why they won't be patient with his replacement

2. Reading your post it's proof enough for me of just how supported VV was by cules..and I don't think I lie if I say that until he announced that he won't renew his contract, Pinto had his name chanted more times at the Camp Nou than VV.
3. I love MATS since he started playing for BM, but a bad game for him means disaster for his team. And in terms of handling the pressure, I just hope that he will handle it better than he did when he played for the german NT.

My feeling as well...I think Mats will be fine but there will be struggles as well as incessant comparisons to Victor...Another reason why I believe the club is being smart (Or at least Zubi should be credited) in looking for a 2nd keeper, preferably one with Primera experience...if for nothing else, to lessen the burden

The reason why I feel good about the German is that I love his mentality, hard to get excited about a keeper but I am about this one

Yes,there are those Cules who didn't like Valdes,amany whether casual fans or Camp Nou spectators ,but he was highly rated between cules way more than he is here ,many Barca fans are just like you ,he was never considered top 3 GK outside of Barca but many thought he was better for the team than Buffon due to his passing (which is insane btw ,he is a GK for god sake )
In any other clubs fans won't be as patient as here with GKs ,I know a lot of members here love to criticize Barca fans and how they are cry baby who got nuts for 1 lose etc ,but fact when iot comes to GoalKeeping Barca fans has shown more patience than any other fans ,that is why MATS would fit here

I always thought casillas was better before he was dropped. There was a reason to why through all those years casillas has always been number one GK ahead of valdes. Even reina was at times ahead of valdes.
Ask any neutral and they will tell you that valdes is not a top 5 material. He just stepped up this season

1. You should go and read VV's thread in this forum or read some of the catalan press to see just how appreciated he was.
2. I don't know where have I said that he was better for the team than Buffon because of his passing..he was better for the team mainly because without him we would probably have one, if not 2 CL less.
3. The majority of Barca fans have never shown any patience with VV..they were asking for Asenjo in 2008 or for Hart last year FFS. The ones who showed patience with Victor were the coaches and the club and that's it.

Ask any neutral and they will tell you that valdes is not a top 5 material.

Fortunatelly, I don't care what the 'neutrals' say..if I would listen to them I would actually believe that Messi isn't anything without Xavi&Iniesta or that Barca robbed all the CLs that we won. Also, if it would have been up to the 'neutrals', Rijkaard or Pep would have never coached Barca.
