Excuse me any new player coming to barca will be under pressure. So we shouldn't buy anyone and promote Oier? Some people will make up anything to rant about

To make it at a club like Barcelona any young goalkeeper will have to be mentally strong. Looking at this guys career so far, coming into a Mönchengladbach team fighting relegation and been outstanding, coming on as a sub and straight away saving a penalty from Messi, coming from a mistake playing for the national team then going on to have arguable his best season at club level.

This situation is very similar to when Man Utd signed De Gea, I know they spent ages scouting him and paid lots of attention to his mental duress. I'm sure Barcelona have done similar with Ter Stegen

What pressure? VV wasn't highly rated for most football fans around the world for years and made tons of mistake and he was still supported by many barca fans and survived ,MATS isn't replacing Buffon or Casillas and if he had few bad games won't be a problem b/c fan still remember that VV had many bad games
I am not trying to underrate Valdes,he is still a club legend and he is g8 GK considering the other GKs we had ,but the bar isn't set too high tbh ,Valdes was never considered top 3 GKs in the world .
And Marc is known to be a high character guy ,he will survive once he is used to it ,Fans was patient with Valdes,I don't know why they won't be patient with his replacement

I don't think you really understand, in Spain there is the club fans, they will give him 3-4 games to show what he is worth, then they will begin to jeer him when he fails. If he isn't as though as a rock, sooner or later he will crack under the pressure. Outside of Camp Nou he has to handle all the media attention, both the negative local and national media with dossens of self proclaimed experts going at him in TV, radio and a dossen or more written articles every single day.

You see, here is the problem, the relentless pressure never stops, it is every single day. And on top of that he has to live with the Madrid media run by Real Madrid goons hell bent on making him crack as fast as they possibly can, we are talking about dossens of merengue journalist, and they are everywhere all the time. And it is not just AS and Marca but also El Mundo, El Pais, La Razon, El Confidencial, Spanish national television channels 1,3,4,5, and 6 that will work relentless every single day to make him crack, this is not a conspiracy theory but it is the reality of Spain.

Victor Valdes was himself a victim of this relentless personal prosecution by the local and state media, he had the mental thoughness to handle it. The situation under which Ter Stegen will find himself once he has played his first offical match for FC Barcelona, is unlike anything a player has to put up with in any other league or team, be it Juventus, Manchester United or Bayern Munich, or any other team, it is a cakewalk compared to what is waiting Ter Stegen.

Your relentless pessimism and negativity makes me throw up a little in my mouth, when ever I happen upon one of your posts.

you would not be able to do anything else in your life if you try to respond to all the fanboys, sometimes ignorance is bliss, face the facts, there are more fanboys than genuine fans, any post that says xavi is not good enough or has lost it plus iniesta has to be sold is not worth giving a second thought

I always thought casillas was better before he was dropped. There was a reason to why through all those years casillas has always been number one GK ahead of valdes. Even reina was at times ahead of valdes.
Ask any neutral and they will tell you that valdes is not a top 5 material. He just stepped up this season
No. He's been just as good earlier. And consistently better than Casillas. Casillas became a huge name almost 10 years ago. He hasn't been on that level during this decade. You're going by opinions of general football fans that don't even watch Barcelona or Madrid games.

You act like pressure is something completely isolated to our club. In England, the press is ready to pounce on any newcomer who shows fault (De Gea anyone?) and there is much more coverage. Players know to not really pay attention to media criticism and continue, especially a confident and steely nerved guy like Ter Stegen who hasn't once shown any weakness to the media throughout all this transfer speculation. I never see him being shaky or nervous. Even when he has a poor game, he doesn't lack confidence. This was a kid who was performing among the best keepers in the world in 2011-12 at the age of 19.

If you write it the way you have, then it's easy to make it seem as if the pressure is overwhelming. However, in reality it isn't THAT big of a deal in this case. Hell I'd say Neymar is the one who really had a lot of weight on his shoulders to perform out of all of our recent transfers. Ter Stegen will be in the spotlight but I don't expect him to perform poorly enough to be smear-campaigned against and even if he does, he wouldn't be affected by the media enough to be crippled further.

The English press is child's play compared to the Spanish, just ask Mourinho. The situation with the media in Spain is horrible, what De Gea had to deal with is nothing, really, if you think that was bad then you have no idea how much worse it is here is Spain. Spain is THE European shithole when it comes to journalists, they are all completely biased and all work for their personal agenda. There are for example a number of journalists that right now work relentless to have the current board of directors resign, you see it on the television, you hear it on the radio and you read it in the newspapers, every ****** single day

Because your opinion is the only true one, right?

I don't like the constant pessimism from some members either, but criticism does not mean pessimism. There's justified criticism and if you think Xavi is still as good as some years ago, you're just as delusional as those you despise.

The reason why I feel good about the German is that I love his mentality, hard to get excited about a keeper but I am about this one

Ditto

Very passionate and a livewire for a keeper. The current Barca could do with such characters. Just the other day, he went berserk at his defence for allowing the Bayer player line up his shot. Having Mr MANGO and Sideshow Bob as his supporting cast will be entertainment worthy, for sure. :popcom: :alveshat:

Criticism is acceptable if it is rational, I don't disagree with you, it's the paradigm, when players get relatively old their performances also steadily deteriorate.

Let me elaborate, anyone expecting Xavi is be the same he used to be 2 years ago is in fact delusional, but under the right management he can be just as good, ideally it has to coincide with enough rest, tactics that suit his style of play ie tiki taka etc, these don't seem to happen nowadays, nonetheless I think xavi has been playing well recently, for his age and the fact that Tata is somewhat a loose cannon he has been immaculate.

Well, then it's probably better for MATS to stop learning spanish and just keep down his vocabulary to only include the basic stuff needed on the pitch. :p

I mean, he would then not understand a word written there and be happy seeing himself on TV all the time, not knowing what the heck they're saying about him...:D

Also, I doubt there's more pressure at Barcelona then at Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus or one of the London clubs.
No matter what, if you don't win and maybe even make a mistake, the press will trash you in Munich, Torino, Manchester, London, Madrid or Barcelona.

Anyways, him signing with Barca's a forgone conclusion, especially with all those reports stating that Borussia has found their new goalkeeper in Yann Sommer of FC Basel.

BTW: Hey, we're selling a player to FCB and buying one from FCB and both play the same position.
