I have a theory...

Cillessen was a much better keeper than Neto. And that kept MATS on his game. Now when Neto signed for de-facto backup... He has no competition... And everything went to shite.

If only we still had Cillessen.

Nah MAtS is just a bang average lower mid-table keeper.

I mean just think about his 'best' years as a keeper here.

1) MSN era - We were blitzing teams left and right, outscoring them with ease.
2) Valverde first year- We were defensively very strong and Valverde was a defence oriented manager and MAtS was protected.

This guy is is the German Joe Hart.

He's just an awful player who's flaws were protected by strong teams. When it comes to actually being a good keeper, he's lower mid-table at best.

People need to realize why Germans laugh at the thought of having this guy as their starting keeper. And no it's not just because they have Neuer. It's because they know this guy is a joke.

The Bayern management (and German legends) love to make fun of this guy because they know he's a joke.

In my eyes, Valdes was a better goalkeeper than this guy will ever be for Barca. I hope we buy a sweeper GK in the future, this guy doesn't know how to come off his line to save his life.

Valdes was 10 times or more better than this fraud.
His face radiate fear of any ball.
Wtf save the first goal and we win this game.

Valdez was equally crap to my honest opinion.. However, he pioneered the sweeper keeper stuff.. He was ahead of his time in that regard.. Not much of a Keeper though (except few very good performances especially the final 2006). Just for David villa (Valencia) alone he gifted like 4 goals out of nothing. We never had luck with keepers.. Except maybe Claudio bravo. Rusto played the euros (or was it the world cup?) of his life, was brought on, performed like shit and was permabenched.

Same valdes who was criticized by the whole world and then gave a performance of a lifetime vs Arsenal in 2006 finals?
Valdes had the biggest balls. Ter Clown has no balls.

The look on his face when he freezes is just incredible if you're not a Barca fan. It's like you can see the "oh, crap, it's coming straight at me" in that fraction of a second after the shot.

Never ever been confident with him in the sticks. One game, Bayern away when we won the CL did I think okay he could develop into a great keeper but no.

In a nutshell - has zero presence, never see him commanding the area, never shouts at defenders, petrified of crosses (may have Vampire DNA).

VV had a lot of brainfarts in his game but one thing he absolutely had was CONFIDENCE. Victor was always confident, never looked like he backed down because he made a mistake or conceded a lot of goals. As a professional you can't look like you're scared like MATS. As a GK you have even more of a duty to look cool and collected. Just not something good to see for the other players and the fans when you're GK is scared shitless of 1v1's and corners. If he continues playing like this he is going to end up back at Hoffenheim, Stuttgart, or Frankfurt like Kevin Trapp (who was also an extremely overrated German GK).
