1 - Victor Valdes

Sorry, but no way VV is better than Neuer and Cech. How great a GK is should be dependent on just how much of a role he has played in his clubs titles and success.VV played a huge part for couple of seasons, but lets face it, Bayern o=and Chelsea (well Chelsea of 04-10), even Madrid depend on their keepers a lot lot more than Barca in order to win games. VV has also been solely to blame for some Barca losses, and even some competition exists (Such as UCl 06-07)

Just No, without valdez we would not have won those 3 CL finals, it gets no biggest than that

It's not just 'one major mistake' though. One major mistake is what you say it is, happens once. I mean people should also learn from their mistakes. VV has to do this every so often, he's still a great keeper, but isn't doing his reputation or the team any favors with these flops. 3-1 and 3-2 are very different results in a 2 legged tie.

He was outperforming Casillas when Barca was dominating games with 70-30 possession and RM was in that transformation period and their defense was going through a tumultuous time, with Raul Albiol fucking things up and Ramos being used a RB/CB and doing a very poor job defensively.

Their is a school of thought that the great goalkeepers are those who have nothing to for most of the game yet and still keep their mind in the game and make the big save, that was VV back then.

In fact it isn't a school of thought it's a widely held fact

Here's the things with Valdes:

1. The fallacy that comes up every time these little incidents happen, is that Barca is so awesome they carried Valdes all these years. Besides this obviously being bullshit, there's also the fact that Barca during his entire time here has played an attacking game with a high line vulnerable to counterattacks. Barca's style of play concedes goals; they might rarely (if ever) get blown out, but it's easy for this team to concede here and there; that Valdes' Zamoras are flukes is complete bullshit.

2. I don't really care that he's Catalan and a Masia prospect; it's a nice feel good story but the main importance here is his chemistry with the team, especially the backline.

3. Valdes is one of the best keeper out there with his feet; Valdes as a sweeper has been a huge part of how Barca plays and having a keeper who can start counterattacks and keep possession has been huge. Ever see what happens when Casillas overhandles the ball? However, when you are a keeper who likes to play the ball, it does lead to mistakes being dramatic..case in point. If you are afraid of leaving your own box and are only there to stop the ball, this doesn't happen. You take the good with the bad.

That being said, Valdes has been a bit crap in big games lately and it's concerning - this, the other Clasico where he basically passed to Benzema, vs Chelsea. Years and years of stepping up in big games mean Valdes has earned rope...but this does need to stop.

But all you glory hunting Valdes haters (I haven't read this topic for my sanity's sake, but I've heard complaints and have seen some awful garbage on twitter - people saying Barca should buy Joe Hart? LOLOLOL) need to STFU and GTFO.

Was he still wearing the Messi name tag from the futsal game on the back of his shirt when he made such a howler? :p

I think we should all agree that Valdes has played instrumental role in past years to help win trophies but the fact that he becomes confused when forwards pressurize him is a bit concerning especially against EE (remember 1st goal in Bernabeau last season !! that was also a similar sort of situation). I think sometimes he focuses too much abt Barca philosophy of passing, as a goal keeper its ok sometimes to kick the ball forwards as a safety first measures especially in situations like these. Hope Tito will address these issues

It's unbelievable how he is still our no 1 goal keeper..
every season he fucks up esp against madrid...

and people saying that we wouldn't have won the 3 CL finals if Valdes wasnt there, are fooling themselves, any goal keeper could have gotten the job done.
2 saves from henry doesnt give him the license to keep fucking up for the rest of the career, We need a better keeper, for all the hard work the 10 men do on the pitch, Valdes messes it up with one silly mistake. wtf was he even trying to do, just clear it ffs.

and valdes better than cech and Neuer ?

I've been saying it for years, VV is not a world-class keeper. He is average....very, very average.

People keep saying his passing game makes him a better fit for us than others....what?! The majority of his big mistakes come from passing, ffs.

He is awful at coming out to claim corners, not even making it to the ball a lot of the time. His positioning vs counterattacks is also very questionable.

I want a goalie who is good at being a goalie- keeping the ball from going into the net. I don't give a shit if VV can hit a target from 40 yards perfectly when not pressured, I really just don't care. Most goalies can handle making a 10-15 yard pass which is exactly what VV has to do the majority of the time.

Cech, Neur, Casillas, Reina and many more experienced goalies are all much better than him. For younger goalies I'd take Joe Hart or De Gea anyday over him....De Gea has just been looking better and better.

VV has been a weak link for many, many years. We have an amazing team that requires him to not do much at all, and when called to action the majority of the time the ball is in the back of the net or he doesn't look very convincing...not to mention the many mistakes he makes like today.

Sure he makes a great save once in a while but he's a goalie, that doesn't make him special. It makes him average.

I'm amazed your list of better keepers wasn't Julio Cesar, Diego Alves and Gomes.
